The Citroen C3 has been given another small update to keep the car fresh against rivals. A recently introduced Saint James trim level has been given extra standard features as it replaces the outgoing Shine specification.

Buying a Citroen C3 Saint James now means you get a leather steering wheel, a reversing camera, privacy glass and two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels. None of these features were fitted as standard on the outgoing Shine trim and the price increase to the Saint James trim level is reasonable at £400.

The Saint James specification includes an exclusive styling pack as standard, consisting of logos and an eye-catching roof decal. Model-specific floor mats are also fitted. Introduced to celebrate the French clothing brand of the same name, the C3 Saint James is only available with a petrol engine. A non-turbocharged 82bhp 1.2-litre engine is available with a manual gearbox, while a 108bhp turbo version gets a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The new Citroen C3 range consists of four trim levels: C-Series, Sense, Saint James and Shine Plus. All have a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB radio, plus air conditioning and LED headlights. C-Series, despite costing less than the Sense variant, adds extra features like a two-tone paint scheme, rear parking sensors and alloy wheels.

Top-spec Shine Plus gets bigger wheels, sat nav and extra driver assistance features, including autonomous emergency braking, auto high-beam headlights and an automatically dimming rearview mirror.

Prices for the Citroen C3 C-Series start at £14,180, some £2,500 cheaper than the entry-level Ford Fiesta. The Citroen undercuts many of its supermini rivals, including the Renault Clio, SEAT Ibiza, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Yaris.
