Sydney S Does it make sense that a 328xi with Steptronic can go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds? I tested my car today just for kicks. I did several trials on different flat stretches of different roads. I did not rev the engine prior to launching (engine speed at about 550 rpm) and just hit the gas from a standstill. DSC was turned off, but DTC was on. My slowest run to 60 was 6.0 seconds on a road that had a slight uphill rise. All of the others were a tick faster. Is there something wrong with my stopwatch? Anyone have more formal data other than BMW's printed times? Feel free to rip this apart. #1 · Mar 5, 2009 Does it make sense that a 328xi with Steptronic can go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds? If you have an iphone get dynolicous, otherwise get proper equipment. Your car should be around 7 seconds to 60 #3 · Mar 5, 2009 Plus if the speedo says 60 you are probably doing 57. #4 · Mar 5, 2009 According to my Nuvi, the speedo is 4 miles above true speed, so you are probably measuring 0-56. That too could bias your results. #5 · Mar 5, 2009 Yeah, I'd bet your results are a tad off, probably true value is in high 6's - I would estimate the best to be 6.7 or so, much as I would like it to be less. Another possible technique for you is to videotape the speedo if you have a digital camcorder or good digital camera, and play it back and get the precise timing. You'd then have to separately calibrate the BMW speedometer to actual 60 mph, which as many have said, will probably be around 62-65 mph on the display. #6 · Mar 5, 2009

I'd bet its more like 7 seconds flat. AWD will cost you 0.3-0.4, and step will cost you another 0.4-0.5 seconds. the 328i manual has been widely tested at about 6.2 sec with a good launch and driver. #7 · Mar 6, 2009 AWD will actually get you a "tick!" Show more replies 0 Reply #9 · Mar 7, 2009 High 6's sounds right. The lowest I've ever gone is 6.5 seconds. #10 · Dec 6, 2009 Car & Driver tested the 328i sedan manual at 5.9 seconds 0-60. BMW's official number is 6.3 seconds. So, the actual number is 0.4 seconds faster. And if you have already 25,000-30,000 miles, the engine may have loosen up a bit and it's possible to be 0.5 - 0.6 seconds faster than the manufacturer's numbers. So, if the 328xi sedan automatic is rated at 7.1 seconds, it's possible to get 6.5 - 6.6 seconds. My 328xi coupe auto is rated at 7.0 seconds 0-60, but I believe it is really doing 6.4 - 6.6 seconds. I've just come from a 300HP Infiniti car, and I can say I'm doing 6.5 seconds. BMW provides more conservative numbers. #11 · Dec 6, 2009 When doing self-tests there are a lot of variables that can't easily be controlled for. How much stuff is in the boot? How accurate is your timing equipment? Outside temperature? Road elevation/gradient? Fuel tank level? (61 litres of fuel versus 20 litres makes a weight difference). The bigger question, is really can your vehicle safely merge and overtake other vehicles? Cuz otherwise, the 0,5 second probably doesn't matter. Insert Quotes Post Reply
