I was wondering if there would be any advantages to getting a 330i or 330ci to a 328i or 328ci. Mostly a personal preference, but subframe tears occur more on the coupes. Get a manual if you can, the older automatics are unreliable. I paid $273/mo insurance on my 328i when I was 20. I've seen it happen to many people including myself. I'm an insurance agent and can say it won't be cheap. Too many variables to be able to give you a rate but can say that it won't differ too much between the cars you're looking at. #5 · Jul 14, 2009 (Edited) Whether or not I'd recommend a 330 over a 328 depends upon the model year of the 330. 2003.5+ 330s get lot of nice goodies that earlier cars don't, like a six speed transmission and faster steering rack. Meanwhile, most 2001 330s have heavily overboosted steering, which ruins steering feel (and, in my opinion, a large part of the driving experience). The 328 gives up some power, but has better throttle feel than any 330, and better steering than all but 2003.5+ 330 (only on account of the latter's faster ratio; I think the 328's steering boost level is better). The 330 has a louder, throatier exhaust note and intake sound (especially with ZHP). Of course, this is from an enthusiast driver's perspective. Most people aren't as concerned with throttle and steering feel and will automatically go straight for the extra power. As an aside: while the extra power is definitely there, I don't think it's worth hyping (and I'm a 330 owner). The 330 doesn't really begin to pull away from a 328 (or a 323/325 for that matter) until the top of 2nd gear. Note that the 328Ci was the model most affected by subframe mount tears for some reason. If you get a 328, you're probably better off with a sedan. #6 · Jul 15, 2009 Perfect review, I was about to say the exact same thing. I have a 328Ci and it's been completely rebuilt almost. You guys know what I've done to it. Well my sister has a 325i... I know it lacks compared to a 330 but the steering feel is the same and the accelerator pedal feel is the same. And I HATE them. There is absolutely no feel compared to my 328Ci, it's horrible. Even with 40+ hp, it wouldn't out a smile on my face like my 328Ci does. 2003+ 330 > 328 2001-2002 330 = fail 0 Reply #7 · Jul 15, 2009 I've had both a 328 and a 330.
