3DEO® knows Geiger-mode lidar.

This new lidar technology allows detailed 3D aerial surveying to be done at a fraction of the cost achievable by conventional lidar systems.

The technology was developed for military and intelligence applications, and has proven robust and revolutionary in multiple military operational theatres.

How might detailed, accurate, current, and inexpensive 3D aerial survey transform your industry?

Fast:10-30 million 3D measurements per second. Thousands of detectors working in parallel.

Efficient:Geiger-mode lidar requires only a handful of detected photons per 3D measurement. Systems can operate from much higher altitudes. High altitude aircraft see larger areas, allowing much faster data collections, resulting in less expensive 3D imagery.

Example: systems on a jet at 30,000 feet (9 km) could map a swath on the ground 3 miles (5 km) wide, delivering 3D imagery at 1 ft (30 cm) resolution. Imagine mapping the entire state of Michigan at 30 cm resolution in 50 hours of data collection.

3D ImagingDirectly measure the 3D structure of cities and forests. Create 3D point clouds of scenes behind partial obscurrants and in deep urban canyons.

Lidar 101

A lidar sensor scans a laser beam across a distant scene, measuring distance at each point. Millions of such measurements are combined to form a 3D point cloud which can be manipulated by an analyst just like a 3D CAD model.

Lidar has diverse applications beyond 3D mapping as it exists today. The superior cost / benefit attributes of 3DEO®’s systems enable customers to unlock new applications, for which 3D data was formerly cost prohibitive.
