96 is a tragic and touching narrative-driven horror adventure that tells a tale of undying love as you care for a zombie that’s chained up in your house.

In 96 you follow the story of Niles, an oddball character who lives a fairly solitary life on an island that’s been ravaged by a pathogen outbreak that turned the population into aggressive zombie-like monsters. His only companion is one of the infected that he keeps chained up in his house and lovingly takes care of. It’s a strange life, but Niles seems fine with it and has settled into a routine, but then one day he encounters a stranger who may make him face his feelings and make some life-changing decisions…

96 is far from a conventional story and it takes some very unexpected turns along the way. There are horrifying elements and some very dark subject matter, but at its core it’s more of a tragic love story. The apocalyptic virus-ravaged setting is used well and the writing is excellent, with you really coming to care for the characters. It takes around an hour. and a half to play through but Niles’ heartbreaking story will stay with you long after completion. Highly recommended.
