Mondo Rock M Assuming 4k UHD discs still provide the best audio/video experience, is MPC-HC and MadVR still the best way to deliver 4K? #1 · Aug 11, 2021 Assuming 4k UHD discs still provide the best audio/video experience, is MPC-HC and MadVR still the best way to deliver 4K? Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Aug 11, 2021 Imo, it depends. If you use a low nit display, you are not going to have decent results trying to play 4k UHD HDR. You would probably want to tone map HDR to SDR using a madVR tonemap test build and a compatible player. This is imperative if you are trying to play 2160p on a 1080p display. If you have a high nit native 4k display, tone mapping HDR to SDR is not necessary. HDR displays as intended. Since there is nothing needed to improve 4k UHD HDR, you simply pass it through. MadVR is one way to pass it through. So is a dedicated UHD hardware player. I use Kodi to passthrough 4k and avoid madVR, LAV, etc. altogether because it's unnecessary. But for video less than 4k, I prefer madVR, LAV, etc. because scaling can be improved and some other fine adjustments. Most improvements will be noticeable on larger screens with larger pixels... smaller screens will probably not see a difference. Kodi and madVR provide further control and automation via scripts. Kodi playercorefactory.xml mostly for multiple player selection (each tailored by content) and madVR profiles for algorithms (also tailored by content). #3 · Aug 8, 2022 For sound sure, since Atmos can be bitstreamed (even TrueHD atmos) only in LAV. But video is best in mpv, it is also fmpeg using, like LAV but a lot of GPU support. #4 · Aug 9, 2022 mo, it depends. Thank you, Brazen - that was a very clear and concise explanation. I prefer Kodi's Confluence interface over any other media player I have tried. Font Screenshot Electronic device Multimedia Advertising Show more replies 1 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
