  “I’ve always dreamed of working abroad to improve both my life and work quality. Over the years, I received offers from places like Singapore, Japan, the UK, Germany, and the UAE. After careful research, I ultimately chose Thailand. I’m originally from Indonesia, and I’ve actually moved to Thailand twice: first from Indonesia, and then again from Estonia after working in Europe. During my first tenure in Thailand, my previous company assisted with my relocation. However, when I returned for my second tenure, Agoda supported my move back, and I can honestly say Agoda’s relocation support is exceptional. They allowed me to choose my travel dates and airlines within the budget, offered flexibility and options for a comfortable one-month accommodation, and provided comprehensive visa and relocation assistance for my entire family, including my wife and child. I never encountered any issues during the process, and I genuinely felt cared for even before my official start date. Adjusting to life in Bangkok was also quite smooth for me. Over time, I’ve made many local friends, learned to speak the language. I even met my wife here, and we now have a son together. I’ve also participated in volunteer activities through Agoda and joined various tech events outside of work, sometimes even giving talks to give back to the community. Finding Indonesian communities is also not difficult, as there are many Indonesians living in Bangkok, including many Agodans. I really enjoy living in Bangkok because of its vibrant atmosphere and unique blend of modern and traditional cultures. The city is full of energy, and you can find a mix of old and new everywhere you go. Over the years, I’ve lived in several different areas of Bangkok—north, south, and west—and now I’m living a bit outside the city, in Nonthaburi province to the east. Outside of work, I love traveling with my family to kid-friendly places and discovering unique coffee shops and hidden gems around Thailand. The country has so much to offer: Delicious food, a rich cultural history, and endless opportunities for exploration." - Michael Abadi Santoso moved from Indonesia and Estonia to Bangkok in 2022.   At Agoda, our data platform relies on S3-compatible object storage to support large-scale data workloads. As traffic increased, distributing S3 requests evenly across backend nodes became critical. However, relying on DNS-based round-robin for load balancing led to uneven traffic distribution at scale. In our engineering blog, Desmond Xu, Tech Lead at Agoda shares how they built Storefront, a Rust-based S3-compatible reverse proxy, to take load balancing out of DNS and into application-level control. Envisioned as a collaborative platform for public and private sector partners, the Impact Lab will help design, test, and scale practical solutions that strengthen industry resilience and create long‑term value.   “I started my career in France but quickly knew that I wanted to learn more, both personally and professionally! That’s what led me to the Netherlands. At first, I thought it would be just a couple of years, but I ended up staying for 12. Time really flies! In the last three years, I worked at Booking.com, which is part of the Booking Holdings group — the same group as Agoda —and it was a fantastic experience. When I felt it was time to explore other parts of the world, I didn’t want to compromise my professional career and wanted to stay within the Booking Holdings group. I’d always had an eye on Agoda. After meeting several current employees, their energy, mindset, and the opportunities in this part of the world convinced me to apply! I moved here with my husband and our two cats! Agoda provided us with all the necessary information and guidance, and checked in regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly. Relocating two kitties to the other side of the world was a journey, but it turned out to be much easier than expected. Agoda arranged everything for a good start, from the taxi waiting for us at the airport to the temporary accommodation provided. There’s a large expat community at Agoda, and everyone was welcoming and shared tips to help us settle in quickly. I had never been to Thailand before relocating and wasn’t sure if Bangkok would be just another megalopolis. The answer is, it’s not! Each part of the city feels like a small city with its own vibe, and there are so many cafes and restaurants—you’ll always find something you like. Outside of work, I love discovering the city. I try to visit a new area of Bangkok or Thailand at least twice a month. Everything is so easy to arrange, and public transportation within the city is great.” - Constance Franconville moved from France and the Netherlands to Bangkok in 2025.
