  “Before Agoda, I had a mostly fulfilling career. I tried different things—cofounding companies, teaching software development, freelancing, and working in various roles like frontend, backend, and mobile. For about nine years, I worked both locally in Nigeria and remotely with companies outside of Africa. I decided to join Agoda in Bangkok because I wanted a lot more from my next role. I wanted to start traveling (I had never left my country at the time), grow and explore my field on a global scale, and take on new challenges. After doing my research, Agoda seemed to be a perfect fit. Relocating to Bangkok, Thailand, from Lagos, Nigeria, was a move I had to consider carefully, as I was just about to start a family at the time. However, I found that Bangkok had a lot to offer. It’s a melting pot of cultures, with a higher overall standard of living. It was also very easy to settle in. People are very friendly and helpful both at Agoda and in the city. I have had so many fun experiences where I got help from a stranger without expecting it. My colleagues have quickly become friends. We plan outings together, and they show me experiences I wouldn’t have found on my own. For quick vacations outside the city, it’s easy to travel to other places from Bangkok. One of my favorites is visiting Khao Yai National Park, where I saw amazing wildlife like monkeys, elephants, and deer. If you’re considering relocating to Bangkok for Agoda, you’ll find it's a beautiful city with very friendly locals and a high standard of living. Plus, if you are coming from Nigeria, the weather and seasons are very similar, and you’ll fit right in.” Peter Esenwa moved from Nigeria to Bangkok in 2025. Curious about life in Bangkok?   “Agoda is a unique workplace in that everybody comes from vastly different backgrounds, both professional and personal (my team alone speaks 10+ languages!). Being able to draw on expertise that spans multiple countries and specialties is a huge accelerator for my own growth. While I miss New Zealand a lot, Bangkok is infinitely better. It gives me the chance to connect with people from different walks of life. Bangkok is close to so many amazing travel opportunities in the region, and of course, there’s always something happening in the city. Moving to Bangkok is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you’ve moved here, you’re likely the kind of person who wants to meet new people and see new places. This means you already have a lot in common with the other people who have also chosen to call Bangkok home, and it makes it very easy to find your people. There are groups for just about everything, and there’s always, always something to do. I am very lucky that the friends I’ve made in Bangkok are always up for an adventure, whether it's a spontaneous weekend trip to a regional festival, gaur spotting at midnight, 3 hours of karaoke, or simply exploring the streets of Bangkok. We’re also the extremely obnoxious winners of our local trivia night. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, connect, and experience something new every day, Agoda, and Bangkok, are the perfect places to be.” - Joannako Li moved from New Zealand to Bangkok in 2023.
