Because this is currently the only air cooler in local market with LGA1700 socket installation kit available. They sell other coolers but customers are responsible for sourcing out/ordering LGA1700 kits from the manufacturers. And luckily only one NH-D15S left in Greater Vancouver so i drove to Burnaby store and grabbed it and run ! The NH-D15S is massive in size and with awesome looking. The installation manual is so well written with nice drawings. Only took 10 mins to finish installation. Amazing to see how tight the cooler fits to my new MSi motherboard (see attached pictures). The first memory slot is arbitrarily rubbed and heatpipe is touching the memory slot 2.

Nice! Easy to see the d-15s would clear ram without extended height heat sinks, but good to know it will clear your taller ram in the outer slots.

I think you installed it the wrong way. The fan should blow towards the io shield. If you look at the pictures you posted there is clearance for the ram but the way you have it those clearances are not over the ram. This is mine. Plenty of room for tall ram. Last edited: Jan 29, 2022

If it makes you feel any better my son did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, but instead of the heat pipes hitting the ram they hit the VRM heatsink. So it was easy to spot for me.

Yes, I understand, but the NH-D15S is made specifically to be mounted this way to provide an offset in order to not crowd the first pcie lane and allow for taller ram at the same time. If you want to mount it so the fans are blowing upward, then the standard NH-D15 is for you!
What’s the difference between NH-D15 and NH-D15S?
The NH-D15S is an asymmetrical single fan version of the NH-D15 that has been tailored to provide superior RAM and PCIe compatibility. In particular, the NH-D15S differs from the NH-D15 in the following regards: Asymmetrical design: While both ... noctua.at Prev
