The new Volkswagen Golf is one of the highly anticipated launches of the year. And finally, after a long wait, VW Malaysia has announced the new Golf’s launch date. The 2022 Volkswagen Golf will be joining the lineup on the 16th of February 2022.

    VW Malaysia will be launching the new Golf at the Sepang International Circuit on the 16th of February 2022.

    All-new VW Golf - What’s on offer?

    Variants

    All-new Volkswagen Golf variants

    As per the preview event that took place late last year, the new VW Golf will be offered in two variant options - the 1.4 TSI R Line and the Golf GTI.

    Both the variants will be offered as locally assembled units with assembly taking place in Pekan, Pahang.

    Engine

    All-new Volkswagen Golf R-Line

    The base R-Line variant will be powered by a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine making a maximum power of 150 hp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

    All-new Volkswagen Golf GTI

    As for the range-topping GTI variant, it will feature a revamped 2.0-litre TSI engine churning out a maximum power of 245 hp along with a peak torque of 370 Nm. Compared to the regular Mk 7.5 version, it gives out 15 PS and 20 Nm more output. Like before it will be offered in front-wheel-drive configuration with power delivery done via a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

    On the performance side, the Golf GTI can complete the century sprint in just 6.4 seconds.

    Exterior

    All-new Volkswagen Golf exterior

    Both the Golf variants as can be seen in the images showcase an up-to-date and modern design language. While the ‘R-Line’ exterior trim remains common, the GTI gets several differentiating and striking bits like the mesh honeycomb grille, massive 18-inch wheels, red pin stripes, and tailpipe exits.

    Standard across the lineup are LED Plus headlights and LED tail lights. The R-Line model runs on 17-inchers.

    Interior

    All-new Volkswagen Golf interior

    Like the exterior, both the 2022 Golf variants showcase a more or less the same cabin layout. For instance, both benefit from semi-bucket seats with integrated headrests, digital instrument cluster, and a sizable infotainment touch screen.

    However, being the range-topping variant, the GTI gets a few additional gears like a sportier flat-bottomed steering wheel, exclusive honeycomb trim on the dashboard, accent piping & stitching on the seats, and leather upholstery. The R-line, on the other hand, features suede-like fabric upholstery.

    Safety

    All-new Volkswagen Golf safety

    Though VW Malaysia has not revealed the 2022 Golf specifications, we can expect the following safety features as standard - Hill Descent Control, Automatic Post Collision Brake System, Rest Assist, 6 Airbags, ISOFIX, and Electronic Stability Control.

    Note these are all assumptions, the actual details will be known on the launch.

    Price

    All-new Volkswagen Golf launch

    Volkswagen Malaysia has its lip seeded on the car’s pricing, however, being offered as locally assembled units, the new Golf is expected to price less than the ongoing Mk 7.5 generation.
