Is anybody using one of the new ones ? I know they have less connection than the older models, but how do you find the sound ? Does it sound any better than G3 ? especially the overdives and distortions ? In the Zoom ms 50g with the latest upgrade there are at least 4 od / dist. that are really good, and they are in the G3 n as well. Please let me know how you like it if you use it. Cheers. To me, there are some great sounds in the amp models / cab sims. The drive pedals - mixed results, but with a bit of EQ-ing I'm able to get some great sounds. For me, the best drive tones have been from using the amp/cab sims into a clean amplifier (mainly a Roland cube on the JC clean, with flat EQ). I've never played the Zoom direct to PA so can't comment on that. In other situations, I've been running it into the front of a Laney valve amp and using it mainly for modulation / delay. But with the Gold Drive (Klon I think) and TS effects, these can give a nice boost to push the Laney a bit harder. I see that some people don't like having to scroll through the slots to switch on effects, but with a bit of planning, I've not really found it to be a big problem. There is a bit of a learning curve with the interface, but I think it's a good compromise given the compact size of the unit. Thin white duke

Thanks a lot man, i would use it in front of a clean amp and i will need it for some overdrive and dist., my idea was to have 3 drives for every project that i have and that's it, i've got other stuff for effects, yesterday i compared the dyna drive from my ms 50g with my joyo ultimate drive, both Fulltone Ocd clone and man, they sound so close, the drive from the Zoom is a little bit less dark and i like this thing. 545454

With a bit of tweaking, I'm sure you'll find something useful in there - and of course there are EQ effects, compressors etc so endless tone shaping! fozhebert

All of the time based effects are really good and the layout is pretty intuitive. I'm probably going to stick with my g1on for 2 reasons: I like the Vibroverb emaulation and the G3xn does not have that and the I like the Marshall Guvnor pedal, again the G3xn does not have that one. One thing I wished the G3xn had was the different output types for the amp sims as the G3xn only has a mic and off option. Overall the G3xn will serve most people better than the g1on in the long run. Thin white duke

The latest firmware upgrade provides a much better computer interface. There is a long (really long) and useful thread here: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/zoom-g3n-g5n-platform-tips-and-tricks.1791205/ Thin white duke

Can I turn off all amp/cab sims and just use it like a physical pedalboard with delay, chorus and overdrive? Turning them on/and off with the foot switches and using the knobs above the corresponding foot switch to adjust the "pedal" just like a physical pedal. Also, any idea if the unit is buffered? (Hope so) Thanks Hoodster

Did you ever get an answer to this? I’m considering a used G3XN for similar use. S

Yes, you can, and it sounds darn good. I tend to use the amp sims as I go through a PA at a church, but a couple patches don't have them and sound good. They're not analog overdrives (obviously), but they do respond to guitar level pretty well. Buffered, don't know? Hoodster
