Jim T. Shining a light on the hobby. Jim T.'s Avatar Thread OP 6 Servos that Won't Disappoint - Servo City !Servos to Know I realized very quickly in my RC hobby that your servos better work! Years later I have piles of servos from planes that found their "expiration date." After all this time I still check RCGroups.com to make sure I'm using an adequate servo for my application. Here is a story from Servo City that goes over 6 servos and their uses. I have added the specs of each servo and descriptions in the photos for even more info... !!From Servo City !"Which servo should I use for my project?" This is a question we are asked on a daily basis. The answer depends on your application and numerous other factors. Here is a short list of go-to's among the hundreds of servos we offer. Price, performance or even uniqueness all play a part. Let's take a closer look.... !HS-485HB This servo is designed with long-lasting Karbonite gears and a ball-bearing supported output shaft to reduce friction. Excellent performance at an entry level price. @10610113

ronin4740
ronin4740 Wandering IT geek ronin4740's Avatar The last set of Hitech servos (HS225BBs) I purchased had horrible centering issues. Might have been okay for a big trainer but was certainly not for a Q500 pylon racer. I replaced them with another brand and solved the issue. Perhaps I just got four bad ones...

Unless of course they're using a standard trainer, which will take standard-sized servos (although more likely to be HS-311's or HS-422's than the monsters in this list)

Pippin how does that affect the servo? I bought a bunch of the 485hb. but i had some small movement in all of them. it was a grinding noise that occured evry few second. Later i decided to read up about the 485hb and i found out that it was not uncommon that people had failures with these servos. I decided to not use them and replaced them with other servos. Next time i will search for info before i buy a new typ of servo and not just look at specs and price.

autodidact Registered User Meh, on these larger servos. Most Hitec servos IMO are just not that good. The HS 82MG and the 225 are horrible. Sloppy and they fail. The 645MG and HS81 are pretty solid and their big winner is of course the 65MG. Now that is a great servo. The rest, not so much. For the bigger stuff, I use and trust Futaba and JR.

RC Man
RC Man A man with too many toys I have had good results from the larger servos but not the saller ones (HS-65 and smaller). I don;t use anything smaller than HS-85 from Hitec. My main complaint is the value. Most Chinese servos are excellent at a much lower price. Why is Hitec so much more expensive than other Chinese brands? .
