Archive.org versionOnce all that sinks in, you’ll realize the value of the ASUS ROG GX800 is not with its performance but rather the flexibility you get in how you use it: even an ITX system with the same FPS horsepower will need at least twice the footprint the GX800 requires but with this one, you can just put at the side of your table and still have enough desk space to do other things without a monitor hampering your freedom. Archive.org versionOverall this is a powerful laptop and you can play high end games (name any game and it will play – Rise of Tomb Raider, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon to name a few) for 24/7 without any issues or lags, plus this is with a 4K screen. The Liquid cooling system is packed inside a suitcase and the laptop can be packed inside the laptop bag. Overall both are quite heavy. If you recall I did the review of Asus GX700 that also came with liquid cooling system and there everything was packed inside the suitcase. Archive.org versionAfter spending three weeks with ASUS’ latest monster, we can safely say that the ROG GX800 is better and faster than the previous generation. While externally there hasn’t been a lot of change, the insides of the notebook have been thoroughly revamped to give gamers with deep pockets the best performance possible. Sure, its Php 369,995 price tag is pretty ridiculous for a notebook, but the ROG GX800 is crazy enough that it actually deserves that price tag. While water cooling may seem like a normal affair for desktops it looks like ASUS may have broken the gaming notebook market with their water cooled enabled gaming notebook with its latest revision the GX800VH. Beginning with its CPU the ASUS GX800VH is powered by Intel’s 7th generation Core i7-7820HK processor. It is most uncommon for a K series CPU to ever be incorporated in a notebook but such is the case for the GX800VH which means users will be able to overclock the CPU to gain an additional boost to performance. As with overclocking comes additional heat which brings the water cooling part into play, along with the notebook itself the GX800VH comes with an external water cooling dock which allows users to hook up to keep temperatures stable and low all times while staying plugged at home. Moving along, the GX800VH is most definitely loaded for bear with its dual Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 in SLI mode which really brings a whole new meaning in smoking the competition, not only that, the GX800VH is most definitely VR ready. But of course, what good is a beefy GPU or CPU without ample memory to keep them fed, at 64GB worth of DDR4 memory it is plenty sure to keep the beast continuously fed.
Despite being a premium over the top notebook the chassis and construction is a mixture of plastics and metal which is a tad disappointing considering the fact one might have to part with a kidney to even own one. While it would have been better to have a full aluminium construction nonetheless the finish does feel premium as it should. The 18.4 inch 4K IPS panel is quite crystal clear with abhorrently small pixel patch it is undeniably a pleasant viewing experience. Along with its various premium themes is its audio which is handled by a top of the line ESS Sabre DAC amplifier capable of 32-bit/384kHz output which whether it is paired with a headset or simply running off the 2 large full range speakers provides the ultimate audio experience for users. Another welcoming change from its predecessor is the inclusion of a MechTAG (Mechanical Tactile Advance Gaming) RGB Mechanical Keyboard, although they aren’t your average Cherry MX switches nonetheless, these ASUS designed mechanical switches are a step-up from your run of the mill membrane keyboard which surely adds to the typing experience. Of course as it goes with the theme of yesteryear the keyboard is also RGB backlit. While it is standard for all notebooks to have an integrated trackpad, ASUS has included their ROG Gladius mouse as part of the package which is a bonus considering most people if not all game with a mouse. Going through the spec sheet of the GX800 is like going through a die-hard PCMR user, all in all the GX800 is power that is hard to beat although pricing might not.
