sion shift lever. On C-4, C-5 and C-6transmissions, it will be necessary tohook up the neutral safety/backup lightswitches on the B&M Megashifter.Locate and identify the neutral safety(the engine will not crank unless thesewires are connected together), and thereverse light wires. Disconnect thebattery ground cable before beginningto wire the neutral safety and reverselight switches. Reroute the wires to theB&M Megashifter. Strip 1/4" of insula-tion off the wires and install thesupplied slip-on terminals. Crimp theterminals onto the wires using acrimping tool or pliers. Connect theneutral safety wires to the LOWERswitch and the reverse light wires tothe UPPER switch (See Figure 1). Tapethe terminal connections to preventshorts. Reconnect the battery groundcable, disconnect the coil wire and setthe parking brake. Check the switchoperation by attempting to start themotor in each shifter position. Thestarter must crank only when theshifter is in the Park or Neutralposition. Check the backup lightoperation when the shifter is shifted tothe Reverse position. Adjust theswitches if required. Reconnect thecoil wire. Go to Step 29.

CHRYSLER

STEP 21. If you have not already doneso, loosen the pinch bolt on the throttlelever on the transmission. This is thelever on the small diameter shaft. Prythe lever off with a screwdriver andallow the linkage to hang free. Removeand discard the stock shift lever andthe stock shift linkage. Install the B&Mselector lever in position and tightenthe pinch bolt securely (See Figure 8).Make sure the lever is not pusheddown so far as to touch the transmis-sion case. This will cause the lever tobind on the case. The lever shouldtravel smoothly from front to back witha positive click in each gear position.Install the stock throttle lever inposition on the small diameter shaftas removed and tighten the pinch boltsecurely. The throttle lever mustoperate smoothly.STEP 22. Remove the two transmissionoil pan bolts directly below the shift lever.Install the cable bracket in position (SeeFigure 8) with two spacers between thepan and the bracket. (If your transmis-sion is equipped with a cast aluminumoil pan these spacers can be omitted.)Install the two 5/16-18 x 1.00" pan boltssupplied and tighten to 12-13 lb.ft. Do notovertighten as this can damage the pangasket.STEP 23.Route the shifter cable accord-ing to Figure 4. Avoid kinks and sharpbends and route the cable away from hot

to see that the swivel will slide freely inand out of the hole in the lever in thisposition. If it does not slip in freely, adjustthe swivel slightly until it will slip into thehole in the lever in both the Low and thePark positions. Operate the shifterthrough all the gear positions. Check tomake sure the swivel will slide in and outof the selector lever hole in each gearposition. Install the cotter key suppliedwith the shifter into the swivel and spreadthe key ends.

If you have a problem, DO NOT FORCE

THE SHIFTER, this will damage the cable,the shifter or the transmission. Simplystart at the beginning and carefully checkall your steps.IMPORTANT: Do not froce the shifter to

over travel into the Park position. This willmove the shifter into GM Park positionand will damage the cable or the trans-mission.STEP 20. On Ford vehicles, the neutralsafety/backup light switch is located onthe transmission (or on the steering col-umn on some early vehicles). If the ve-hicle has an AOD transmission the neu-tral safety/backup light switches on theB&M shifter will NOT be used. The neutralsafety/backup light switch on AOD trans-missions will continue to function nor-mally.On the C-4 and C-5 transmissions it isnecessary to completely remove thestock neutral safety/backup light switchin order to install the B&M transmis-
