Time allotted: 45 minutes LESSON OUTLINE Check-up Warm-up: Name the sports events (8mins) Reading (35mins) Pre-reading (10mins) Activity 1: Discussing (5mins) Activity 2: Teaching new words (5 mins) II. While-listening (25mins) Activity 1: Gap-filled ( 7 mins) Activity 2: True or False ( 10 mins) III. Post-Reading : Making a conversation (8 mins) E. Consolidation (1min) F. Homework (1min) Procedure Time Content Activities A. Check-up: 8 mins B. Warm-up: Name the sports events: Look at the symbols of some sports events and name them: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Expected answers: 1) Euro Cup 2)Asian Games 3)Sea Games 4)World Cup 5)Olympic Games 5) AFF Cup - Students work in pairs -Teacher asks students to look at symbols and find out the name of these sport events. -Students discuss and give their answers -Teacher can help students with some information if necessary -Teacher asks: “ What do these pictures tell us about” to lead to the new lesson. Expected answer: Sports events 35 mins 10 mins 5 mins 5 mins 25 mins 7 mins 8 mins 10 mins C. Reading: I. Pre-reading: 1. Activity 1: Discussing the following questions: 1) How often are the Asian Games held? 2) How many countries take part in the Asian Games? 3) What sports are Vietnam best at? Expected answers: 1. They are held every four years. 2. It depends on the Games. For example, in the first Games held in India in 1951 only 11 countries took part in the Games but in the 14th Asian Games the number of countries took part in the Games was 44. 3. Vietnam is best at billiards, body building and karatedo. 2. Activity 2: True or False Read these following sentences, identify if they are true(T) or false(F) and correct their mistakes 1) The Asian Games takes place every 2 years 2) This sports event aims at developing commercial and economic activities between countries in Asia 3)The first Asian Games were held in New Delhi, India in 1951 4) Boxing, shooting and aquatic sports were added at the second Asian Games in the Philippines in 1954 5) Tennis was first played at the Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan in 1958 6) More than 10000 participants from 44 countries took part in the 14th Asian Games in Busan 7) Viet Nam was successful in bodybuilding and billiards with 4 gold medals at the 14th Asian Games. Follow-up Activity: Talk about one of these sports events: Asian Games AFF Cup World Cup 2006 -Students work in pairs -Teacher asks students to close their textbooks, work in pairs to ask and answer these questions - Teacher calls on some pairs to ask and answer - Teacher checks and gives them feedback -Students work in individual -Teacher shows the pictures of some sports and asks student to name these sports - Teacher reads these words as a model and asks students to repeat in chorus and individually. - Students work in individual and in pairs - Teacher asks students to read the sentences in the task to get their rough meaning, identify the part of speech of the words needed to fill in the blanks -Teacher lets students to read the text silently in 2 minutes and do task 1 - Teacher asks students to work in pairs to check their answers -Teacher asks some students to give their answers and gives positive feedback. - The correct answer will be written on the board - Students work in pairs -Teacher gives students handouts and asks students to scan the information in the text to identify if they are true or false. - Teacher asks students to give their answers and correct their mistakes. - Students works in group of 4 - Teacher asks students to work in groups to share their ideas about one of these events - Teacher calls some students to present in front of the class - Teacher gives positive feedback 1 min D. Consolidation: - Students work in pairs - Teacher asks students tosummarize the main point of the lesson -Teacher asks students whether there is anything they are not sure -Teacher responds 1 min E. Homework: - Learn by heart all new words. - Find some outstanding information about the latest Asian Games - Prepare for the new lesson: Speaking - Teacher writes homework on the board - Students copy Evaluation : APPENDIX
