I. Lý thuyết There is - There are

- Được dùng để chỉ sự tồn tại của người hoặc vật tại một nơi nào đó. Chủ ngữ thật của câu là danh từ đi sau động từ “tobe”. Nếu nó là danh từ số it thì động từ “tobe” chia ở ngôi thứ 3 số ít và ngược lại.

- Đối với danh từ số ít

Khẳng định	There is + danh từ số ít
Phủ định	There isn’t/ is not + danh từ số ít
Nghi vấn	Is there + danh từ số ít?

- Đối với danh từ số nhiều

Khẳng định	There are + danh từ số nhiều
Phủ định	There aren’t/ are not + danh từ số nhiều
Nghi vấn	Are there + danh từ số nhiều?
