Baltic Exchange Dry Index

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, declined for a sixth session on Wednesday, declining 0.6% to 1,877 points, its lowest since July 14 at 1,889 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also fell for a sixth day, dropping 0.5% to an over one-month low of 3,319 points, and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.1% to 1,267 points, the first gain in nearly a month. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index shed 18 points at 1,144 points. Considering the full 2025 year, the baltic index jumped 88.3%, its best year since 2016.

Baltic Dry fell to 1,877 Index Points on December 24, 2025, down 0.64% from the previous day. Over the past month, Baltic Dry's price has fallen 18.71%, but it is still 82.41% higher than a year ago, according to trading on a contract for difference (CFD) that tracks the benchmark market for this commodity. Baltic Dry fell to 1,877 Index Points on December 24, 2025, down 0.64% from the previous day. Over the past month, Baltic Dry's price has fallen 18.71%, but it is still 82.41% higher than a year ago, according to trading on a contract for difference (CFD) that tracks the benchmark market for this commodity. Baltic Exchange Dry Index is expected to trade at 1880.61 points by the end of this quarter, according to Trading Economics global macro models and analysts expectations. Looking forward, we estimate it to trade at 2223.87 in 12 months time.

Baltic Exchange Dry Index The Baltic Dry Index is reported daily by the Baltic Exchange in London. The index provides a benchmark for the price of moving the major raw materials by sea. The index is a composite of three sub-indices that measure different sizes of dry bulk carriers: Capesize, which typically transport iron ore or coal cargoes of about 150,000 tonnes; Panamax, which usually carry coal or grain cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes; and Supramax, with a carrying capacity between 48,000 and 60,000 tonnes. The Baltic Dry Index takes into account 23 different shipping routes carrying coal, iron ore, grains and many other commodities.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also fell for a fifth day, dropping 6.2% to an over one-month low of 3,337 points, and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, eased for the 19th straight session, decreasing 1.3% to an over six-month low of 1,266 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also decreased for a fourth day, down 1.8% to an over one-month low of 3,559 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, retreated for the 18th straight session, slipping 3.1% to its lowest since June 9 at 1,282 points.
