Berries are items that can be acquired from leveling up, spinning the Photo Disc at a Gym or PokéStop, defeating a Raid Boss, completing research tasks, opening Gifts, or GO Battle League. They can be used while capturing wild Pokémon. They can also be fed to a Pokémon in a friendly Gym, increasing its motivation and CP. 20 Stardust is earned per berry fed to Gym Pokémon, and Trainer can feed one up to 10 berries at a time. Berries can also be used to feed Pokémon since the Buddy Adventure update.
There are currently five kinds of berries available in gameplay:
- Razz Berry,
- Pinap Berry,
- Nanab Berry,
- Golden Razz Berry
- and Silver Pinap Berry.
To see currently owned Berries Trainer can check them out on the item bag page .

Types[]
Razz Berry[]
Details A Razz Berry is kind of berry that when fed a Pokémon while trying to capture it increases the chance of success by 1.5 times. They can be obtained by trainer at Level 8 and higher. Just like two other kinds of berries, Razz Berries can be obtained from spinning Photo Disc at PokéStops and Gyms and as reward for levelling up.
In-game description Feed this to a Pokémon, and it will be easier to catch on your next throw. |
Pinap Berry[]
Details A Pinap Berry is kind of berry that when fed a Pokémon while trying to capture it, it will double the amount of Candy the Trainer will receive if their next capture attempt is successful. They can be obtained by trainer at Level 18 and higher. Just like two other kinds of berries, Pinap Berries can be obtained from spinning Photo Disc at PokéStops and Gyms and as reward for levelling up. It is particularly useful on Pokémon that are the 2nd and 3rd stages of their evolution line, as they drop more candy (5 and 10 respectively) than their 1st stage form (only 3 candies). However, those Pokémon are also usually harder to catch, making it more likely to break out and waste the berry. Pinap berries stack with double candy bonuses from events multiplicatively. If a Pokémon normally grants 3 candies, and grants 6 during the event, using a Pinap berry at the same time would grant 12.

Nanab Berry[]
Details A Nanab Berry is kind of berry that will stop a Pokémon's movement during encounter, making it easier to capture on the Trainer's next attempt. They can be obtained by trainer at Level 4 and higher. Just like two other kinds of berries, Nanab Berries can be obtained from spinning Photo Disc at PokéStops and Gyms and as reward for levelling up. It is particularly useful on hovering Pokémon that move around. There are several such move patterns: darting from one spot to another rapidly (Magnemite, Zubat), moving about smoothly in a figure 8 (Abra, Gastly), or flying upwards and staying for some time (Pidgeotto, Golbat).
In-game description Feed this to a Pokémon to calm it down, making it less erratic. |
Golden Razz Berry[]
Details Golden Razz Berries will greatly increase a Trainer's chances of catching a Pokémon they encounter in the wild (by 2.5 times) and can also be given to a Pokémon assigned to a Gym to fully recover its motivation meter. This kind of berry can be obtained as a reward from Raid Battles, completing Research tasks, or Promotional/Sponsored Balloons.
In-game description Feed this to a wild Pokémon to make it much easier to catch. Feed this to a Pokémon on a Gym to fully restore its motivation. |
Silver Pinap Berry[]
Details Silver Pinap Berries increase a Trainer's chance of catching an encountered Pokémon by 1.8 times and multiply 2.333 times the amount of Candy given when Pokémon is successfully caught. They can be obtained from Mega Raid Battle, Research tasks and GO Battle League. The conversions are: 3 Candies - 7 Candies5 Candies - 11 Candies10 Candies - 23 Candies
In-game description Feed this to a Pokémon to receive more Candy when you catch it and make it easier to catch. |
Bluk Berry[]
Details It is one of two types of berries that are not available in gameplay yet, but information about them can be found in game data. It might supposedly prevent wild Pokémon from jumping, while there's Poké Ball being thrown at them.
In-game description UNDEFINED. |
Wepear Berry[]
Details It is one of two types of berries that are not available in gameplay yet, but information about them can be found in game data. It might supposedly enlarge hit circle while capturing a Pokémon with a Poké Ball.
In-game description UNDEFINED. |
Update history[]
Before the GO Beyond update, the effectiveness of certain Berries were weaker:[1]
- Nanab Berry only slowed down a Pokémon for 95%
- Silver Pinap Berry doubled the amount of Candy like regular Pinap Berry
- Buddy changes - to be added
Trivia[]
- The in-game description of the item is misleading. It states that feeding Razz Berry to a Pokémon "on your next throw" will make it easier to catch. The effect actually lasts until the Pokémon enters a Poké Ball at least once. If the Pokémon seems to be captured, but escapes the ball, the effect of the berry wears off, and another must be used. If the Pokémon does not enter the ball, such as if the player's throw misses, the effect does not disappear.
- Also, only one berry can be used at a time. After an unsuccessful capture (Pokémon escapes from Poké Ball), the effect of berry wears off and the player may use another berry.
- The following berries' names are based on names of real fruits:
- Razz Berry is named after raspberry.
- Nanab Berry is banan(a) spelled backwards.
- And Pinap Berry is pun of berry and pineapple
- In the original handheld series, Nanab Berries increase the cuteness of a Pokémon.
- Nanab berries originally slowed a Pokemon by 70%.[2]
- Originally in game data pictures for Nanab and Pinap Berry were recolored versions of sprites of Wepear and Bluk Berry, as:
- sprite for Nanab Berry was red-colored Bluk Berry sprite
- and sprite for Pinap Berry was green-colored Wepear Berry sprite.
- A berry known as the "ChocoNanab" appears in the game's files. This appears to be a Nanab Berry that is half-covered in chocolate.
- Two under-developed berries have been found in the games files. One appears to be a bundle of grapes while the other appears to be an orange.[3]
