This latest drag race is bound to be a contentious one as it pits current performance sedans against cars from other generations.

The team at CarWow have lined up some pretty powerful compact sedans to see which is fastest in a drag race.

The sole Japanese contender is the Lexus RC-F which is powered by a massive 5.0-litre V8 engine producing 351kW and 530Nm.

Lined-up next to the Lexus are the Germans: BMW M4, Mercedes-AMG C63S, W204 C63 and finally an E90 M3 Sedan.

The M4 has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine named S55 with 317kW and 550Nm. The current C63S comes to the party sporting a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged with 375kW and a massive 700Nm, the highest figure of any car here.

The W204 C63 will probably be remembered for being one of the best-sounding V8 powered cars of its generation, fitted with a full-fat 6.2-litre V8 it produced 358kW and 600Nm.

The W204's main adversary during the early 2010s was BMW's E90 M3, which remains the only V8-powered M3 ever. It had 309kW and 440Nm from its S65 engine which was mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or an M-DCT 'box.
