This SUV had no sedan equivalent. Fair enough, the E60 M5 had no SUV equivalent. They have completely different powertrains. It was E39 M5 x E53 X5 xDrive46is/xDrive48is, then F10 M5 x F15 X5 M, and then F90 M5 x F95 X5 M. (The SUV platform is always newer than its sedan counterpart.) G90 M5 will likely still have an SUV equivalent (G95 X5 M?).

Have a 9 yo x5m bought 4 years ago for $35k 40k miles. Brandie new inside and out. Simple mods it runs 700+hp and 700+torque. 0 to 60 in around 3 sec. This car is by far one of the biggest value autos you can buy. Sorry haters, but the s63 engine and 4x4 drivetrain is still in the fastest bmws today. Amazing technology.

If you owned a Hellcat then you’d know the Hellcat is only 2 tenths of a second faster 0-60 than an M5 and four tenths of a second faster in the 1/4. Remember the power difference between the two. We aren’t comparing apples to apples here. But I know of a Porsche 911 Turbo S that runs 8.7 in the 1/4. That’s 4 seconds faster than the Hellcat. There are a lot of faster cars out there than the Hellcat. Just sayin.....

Not a hater, I’ve own M5 and the 3 series, but to get some yahoo next to my Hellcat and think he has something that will stand up to it, is so ridiculous! The Hellcat is 2 seconds faster from 0-60mph, over 50mph top speed and cost a fraction of the price. Learn your place in the SUV, not muscle in any aspect.

Too many haters in these comments: I owned one of these for a few years and took it on the track and had it ice racing. They are very capable and rewarding vehicles to drive, and extremely comfortable and luxurious as a daily driver, especially with our MN winters.

Just bought a Monte Carlo blue x5m I own a r8 and 2011 7 series. But this car outperforms everything I own. MileAge is 5.5km/litre which is not bad for a suv that beats the 360 Modena. I think this vehicle deserves more Appreciation nd it's much cheaper than cayenne turbo. Its really fun...

It's only pointless and a waste of money when you can't afford it.....
If you can then by all means buy this thing and have fun with it!
Reply 1.3kM=power 15y ago
This car or any car is pointless for people who cant afford it.
hell, a civic is pointless if you cant even afford food.
For everyone else this is another niche market just like any car.

The 4.1 s is 0-60 mph NOT 0-100 km/h!

BMW X5M : 0-100 km/h = 4.1 sec http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/02/02/test-drive-2010-bmw-x5-m/
Reply 839Anonymous 16y ago
I'd be happy with either an X5M or an X6M. Sure it's more power and size than most people need but that's part of the fun :)
Reply 762jake 16y ago
your missing a point though an all wheel drive suv is going to fare better than a 2 wheel drive sports car in the rain any day. plus this has an extra 200hp on the porsche. put both in the dry and this thing wont look as impressive than you think
Reply 710E 16y ago
Wet laps are as good as coin tosses.
Reply 643Anonymous 16y ago
Thats only a 1s difference, and this is an suv!
Reply 615jake 16y ago
no becuase the GT3 was also in the wet and it beat this thing by one second. Even then I think one second is misleading. They always say on the show had it been dry it would be about four seconds faster. I think the GT3 would pick up more time then the Bimmer. I think the wet proably affected the Gt3 more. i think it made the Bimmer look better than it really is.
Reply 595Anonymous 16y ago
If this does a 1:28.2 in th wet, at the TGT, could this be at the 996 GT3 level????
Reply 547jake 16y ago
the quarter mile time is in the 0-300km/h box

0-300km/h in 12.5?
Reply 474Mr sav 16y ago
yeah sure, suggesting buying 2 cars instead of 1? we have 5 month of snow, so buy m3 and then just park it in garage for half a year??? People stop being arogant. For example Top Gear always saying that diesle are best solution. But when its -20 diesle cars wont start ( exp Moscow ) or Us consumers, from your point of view we can also say that big stupid suv like Escalade are pointless, ( they are bad quality, shity of road capability, gas guzzlers ) also its impossible to park car like this in Europe, but for Usa its ok, cause parking is not a problem. I belive that marketing departament in Bmw did good job. Mb have Ml amg, Volkswagen have Cayenne turbo and Q7 v12. So why bmw cant create X5m, especially if it is better that all of above. No after promotion i'm lucky enough to afford this car, and believe me its awesome. I sold my m3 and i dont regret it, cause X5m is much better all-round car for our country.

im not so sure but a direct fuel injected 4.0 twin turbo charged inline6 can get a 520hp without so much lag...
this is where is the 570hp news came from... http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/12/18/the-next-generation-m5-comes-into-focus/
Reply 373Anonymous 16y ago
I hear 520bhp and 500lb ft!! from a TwinTurbo V8. 570bhp is kinda overkill though, and suv's are really just big or different shaped cars.
Reply 341Anonymous 16y ago
"Anonymous Its only a waste of money if BMW doesnt sell as many as they thought"
It's a waste of money for the one who buys that sort of car, not for the BMW
Reply 320Anonymous 16y ago
In my opinion 600 ps would be great for Publicity even if it will hurts fuel consumption with only a bit of extra performance..
Reply 302Anonymous 16y ago
an extra 25ps for the m5 to 580ps is believable but some sources say that it will have 570hp & more torque.. even thought 570hp is around 580ps...
Reply 280Anonymous 16y ago
Its only a waste of money if BMW doesnt sell as many as they thought, but, they should have made a CSL, which my sources say there going too!! iz supposedly a even more hardcore than that GTS crap, 500bhp from a 4.5 i hear! but also a hefty pricetag!!
Reply 265Anonymous 16y ago
Sure people need SUV, but not this pointless X5M. It's a waste of power and money.
Reply 258Anonymous 16y ago
You people know, sum people actually Need suv's, not everybody needs a car, they could use it because they cant fit in a car, or for there job or whatever.
