I've compared them and the CM series Is just a flat out better speaker by a bunch. I think a more valid comparison would be The CM1 vs the 685. I also ended up buying a pair of CM5 S2s after reading this. ******************* I picked up a Denon PMA-50 amp and realised that my old Monitor Audio B2 speakers were a little worse for wear and decided to try out some others today. B&W 685's, CM5 S2, CM6 S2 and the Kef LS50s. I tried the 685s first and what a difference compared to the Monitor Audio B2s, like night and day, so instantly I knew I would be buying a new set of speakers today. I tried the Kef LS50 afterwards. I was originally really interested in the Kef LS50's because of their appearance and was hoping the sound would be as good. The dealer allowed me to bring down my Denon PMA-50 to power them and the small Denon amp really struggled which I was expecting. It took a whole 15db from the Denon unit to power them to the same volume as the 685s. The LS50s sounded better, but much better than the 685s. However now I fully put that down to the amp choice. I'm not fully in the market for an amp right now, but wanted something that would work well with the Denon and future amps. So after 20 minutes with the LS50s I tried out the Bower and Wilkins CM5 S2 speakers. They blew me away. The difference between the 685's and my old Monitor Audio B2s, was the same between the 685s and CM5s. It was so clear a choice I was ready to put my money down, but I wanted to know what the CM6s were like. As you've seen from my pic and the post title, the CM6 S2s are what I ended up buying. The sound of the CM6 was as good as the CM5s, but sounded so much fuller in the midrange, they really filled the room are better than the CM5s. With 15% off the showroom model, I walked out today with the CM6's and couldn't be happier. Planning on upgrading the amp next year, probably a Naim DAC-V1 with a NAP 100, but I'll see closer to the time. I'm very happy I tried them all out in the store. All 4 speakers sounded great, but being able to pair them with my Amp made me so much happier than just buying them online without hearing them first. Insert Quotes Post Reply
