However the hinges are very flimsy and I have broken 2 under warranty. One replaced by JayCar and the other not replaced because they are not a spare part. When challenging the staff at JayCar by stating it must be manufacturing fault that they keep breaking, they claimed that the… Read more
reason they have broken is because I must lean on it! As a matter of fact I do not lean on the lid and if Idid it has a chain to stop it from going further back than allowable. Which bring me to leave a 3 star review. I now have a fridge that I can't use which I rely on every day as I'm an interstate truckdriver and take my meals with me for the week.

4.9 AdBecoming unhinged – Great fridge but be aware the hinges are just 2mm x 19mm plastic and break easily. That said, the supplier still honored the warranty after a year of continuous use. Manufacturers should use stainless steel, not shoddy plastic. Let's down an otherwise excellent little fridge. Contacted Brass Monkey about this.....this is their reply; Hi Steve, … Read more
Thank you for your enquiry. The hinges are not available on their own, sorry. I'll pass your feedback to our buying team to review, thanks for letting us know. Please do not hesitate to contact us via return email if there is anything else we can help you with. Kind Regards

Brass Monkey 22litre Camping Fridge – I live permanently in a motorhome and have my BRASS MONKEY 22L fridge going all the time from 12volt power. This is a fantastic buy. It hasn't let me down, have been running non-stop now for over a year. When I shop I immediately put perishables in my brass monkey. In fact I don't even use my main fridge. Best deal in portable reliable camping fridge on the market today. Show details
100% recommend the 22L Brass Monkey Fridge – Brass Monkey 22L is perfect. Keeps the beers cold and even plugged into 12 volt 24/7 on the boat uses hardly any amps. Would 100% recommend this eveytime. Saved lots of money by not having to buy ice. I did consider the smaller one but ended up buying the 22L much better compact size. Takes about 15 stumbles (330ml bottles) Show details
Great for people the road – I have one in my work van, it has been nothing short of brilliant. Wish I had one years ago. I have saved a lot of money by not buying servo drinks or stopping for food. I pack this as boy in the morning and let it chooch away, don’t even know it’s on because it’s so quiet. Keeps everything super cold without freezing. It is complemented with my… Read more

CANT COMPLAIN FOR THE PRICE – I bought one of these 22L Brass Money Fridges 6 months ago and haven't had a single issue with it off eBay for $260 and free shipping. Its been that good I bought another one for my new van build. To combat the tie down issue I drilled a single hole at each handle end and strapped down that way. It will void your warranty but it fixes the problem.… Read more
It has a moderate draw of about 1.4amps at ambient temperature and cools the entire way around your goods. The ice cube tray is a bit of a gimmick imo but Ive found you can chuck a few icypoles in there for the kids and at 0 degrees it actually does keep them frozen while still keeping food cold in the fridge part. If anyone has any more questions about please dont hesitate to leave a comment or private message me here and I will reply
Good little fridge – This fridge is good size for day trips and picnics hence buying it instead of carting and lifting a bigger fridge (this is nice and light). At this price point its not bad, does the job ok and didnt take a long time to start cooling to set temp of 4 degrees but it wasnt hot in the car when i used it first time so it wasnt a big challenge, but it… Read more
got cold fairly quickly. I will update when using in more extreme conditions. Says it uses 3.8 amp which is moderate draw, dont know if this is accurate yet (early days). It doesnt come with 240v capability built in and needs a 240v - 14 volt adapter for additional cost ($49.95). One thing that drops off my rating and annoys me a bit is the fridge puts out "noise" and some kind of emf interferance..i have an "in glass" antenna in my rear tailgate and the fridge interferes with dab+ digital radio reception (local still picks up but distant cuts out) and gives interferance to am radio, not that i listen to am radio but some people do...fortunately can still listen to FM..i have an evakool 50l fridge and it causes no interferance..i am going to buy some faraday cloth and see if i can make a cover for the fridge to shield the emf interferance...the fridge should be shielded against interferance when manufactured, it shouldnt be a problem. I was told interferance could be from input lead so I tried ferrite filters but no improvement. I moved the fridge to the back seat and connected away from tailgate and the reception improved a little.
Great small fridge – Purchased this fridge almost 3months ago as my 1st compressor type fridge & it has been running non-stop 24/7 in the boot. It has never skipped a beat and keeps everything icy cold. It performs rather well, reasonably efficient & cools rapidly. Set to an indicated 2degrees it uses approx 1-1.4amp per hour on hot days & 0.7 on cooler days. On… Read more
average 15-22ah in 24hrs.
The fridge is hooked up to a 100ah AGM deep cycle battery (also from Jaycar) charged entirely by solar.
All in all, this Brass Monkey 22l fridge has so far exceeded my expectations. The only thing I find annoying however, is that the fridge has no tie down points.
Great performance – I bought on to keek my smoko and drinks cold while at work, was a bit sus on the price at how it would do! The Little fella suprised and bang for buck out preformed my well named branded fridge in the family car. It sits in the back of a ute bouncing around mine sites.. it's had stuff droped on it been wet and most places to our would not put a… Read more
fridge.. cools down good and the temperature setting is accurate. Power consumption is not to bad in comparison to others, I don't have a insulated cover but if you keep the lid closed to a minimum power usage is good.. baught this fridge from road tec marine and have had no issue at all for the last 6 months of owning it . Would recommend this fridge.. big bang for you$$$$
PreviousLow quality reflects the low price – Brass Monkey 36l fridge freezer 2 fridges have failed within a few months, used only as a second fridge or for day trips, light usage only. Quite disappointed. Bought fridge $399 plus insulation cover $75 When it did work it struggled to drop to temperature, taking a few hours and then struggling to maintain temperature, needing to be set to 0… Read more
or 1 degrees to maintain a temperature below 5 degrees which is poor. The compressor is also noisy compared to other brands.
Considering it's a cheap fridge and i didn't expect it to be comparable to a Waeco or Engel, I could've lived with the poor temperature control and extra noise, but to continually fail on top of that, spoiling food in the process, just makes the Brass Monkey fridge a waste of money at any price. It's essentially an expensive esky at this point.
Also received poor service from Road Tech Marine who would not provide refund, only replace the fridge (twice).
I do not recommend this fridge.
**** edit **** I have since sold it and bought a waeco, don't waste your money on a brass monkey
Struggles to drop the temperature below 9 degrees – Bought the 60 litre brass monkey fridge freezer from Jaycar. Had 24 cans of soft drink (only half full). The fridge started working okay then would not drop below 9 degrees Celsius and Had it set to 'max' (This is with it plugged into the 240v power supply). The fridge started to cut out with er1 displayed. I found that the power supply was so… Read more
hot to touch and was dropping voltage. I shut the fridge down and returned to jaycar for a replacement. The replacement fridge was slightly better but would not cool lower than 6 degrees celcius. In the end i gave up and gave it back for a full refund. The guy at jaycar was trying to tell me it is normal for the fridge to take 5 hours to cool to 6 degrees celcius. I know this is not true. The weather wasn't even hot at 22 degrees Celsius. Another thing is that it is not recommended to use it more than a 5 degrees incline. So if you are into 4wd this is not good.
22lt Brass Monkey fridge – I purchased this as a replacement for my 15lt thermo cooler, and so far I'm impressed with it's performance. I use it almost daily to keep water and my lunch cold while on the road for work. I have tested it for amperage draw and it draws 3 amps on Eco mode and 4.5 amps on power mode. Ran it overnight to see what it used and at 25 deg c ambient… Read more
temp it used 1.3 amps per hour set on 0 deg c. In the work van while temps fluctuate the internal temp doesn't move (I used a remote temp gauge) but according to the display it fluctuates 3 deg. Has a handy internal light and a chain to hold the lid open, the cooling coil wraps around the whole compartment so there is no"hot spots". It even has an ice cube tray, this actually freezes the water in the tray at 0 deg C. Will be interested to see how it performs long term. It says it cools to -22 but I could only get it down to -18, still not bad.
***** 2 YEAR UPDATE**** Well.....what can I say, it's still going as well as the first day I bought it. Gets used daily, performs as expected.
****5 YEAR UPDATE**** Still working, touch panel for changing the temp has now loose but is still in suitu. It just keeps on working all day every day.
***6 year update*** Still going strong!
