This office is responsible for review and issuance of all building and construction related permits, septic system permits, inspections, code enforcement, health & zoning violations and maintenance of records for all buildings and zoning within the town. Building permits and inspections are required for most construction and development within the town, such as remodels, additions, sheds and roofing. Inspections are conducted Monday – Friday, 10:00am - 3pm.
All requests for inspections are made to the Office of Community Development at 603-673-6041 ext. 206.
PERMIT REVIEW WILL NOT COMMENCE UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED IN FULL.

Application Procedure
- All permit applications should be submitted to John Yule, [email protected], either by email or in-person at Town Hall.
- All permits must be accompanied by payment in full at time of submission. Permit review will not commence until payment is received. The fee schedule can be found here.
- No work can begin without an approved permit.
- Various inspections are required depending on the type of work being done. Contact John Yule at [email protected] or 603-673-6041 ext. 206 to schedule all inspections.
Do I Need a Permit?
- Permits are generally required for:
- All new construction
- Additions
- Remodels
- Demolition (see below)
- Sheds
- Decks
- Porches
- New and replacement septic systems
- Swimming pools
- Signs
- Roofs
- Other building improvements
- Permits can be applied for at any time.
- If you are located in the Historic District, Historic District Commission approval may be required for exterior building work.
Demolition
- Hazardous material testing is required by the State of New Hampshire for any project involving demolition. Testing results must be provided to the office before a permit is issued.

When Will I Receive My Permit?
- Building permit applications are processed as quickly as possible. However, many factors play a role in the length of time a permit application takes, such as accuracy and completeness of information provided and fluctuations in the seasonal workload.
- To ensure a speedy turnaround time, be prepared to provide all application materials, including payment, at the time of submission.
- Per NH Law, RSA 676:13, the Building Official has 30 days for completed residential applications or 60 days for completed commercial applications to either approve or deny any permit application.
- No work can begin without an approved building permit.

Codes
On August 2, 2024, Governor Sununu signed into law House Bill 1059, which updated the NH State Building Code (RSA 155-A) to the 2021 editions with NH amendments. Note, the Energy Code remains the 2018 edition. The following code updates started being fully enforced on January 1, 2025.
