longw8 L 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4wd My ABS light came on intermittently a while ago and was getting a pulsating brake pedal. My code reader had a C0040 code that, if I understand correctly, is right front wheel sensor. It looked as if there was some damage to the sensor wiring so I unplugged the sensor until I could get to fix it. I bought a new sensor on Rock Auto. (It was the ultra power cheap china sensor) Removed the old sensor. First observation was that there was some oil/grease on the sensor and in the hole. Hub has about 120k on it. Cleaned off the mating surface and installed the new sensor. Reassembled everything.... Still have the ABS light and code C0040. Constant abs light and no pulsing like the first symptoms. The right front sensor does not appear to be working as I watch the live data on my scanner while driving. Left front and rear read a speed when moving and the right front does not move off of 2mph. First question is, could the oil/grease in the sensor hole cause the sensor to not pick up the signal? I have read that there are some that will grease the bearing by forcing grease through this hole. If thats true, this shouldn't be a problem. Second question, is there a way to check the sensor with a digital multi-meter? It could be the crappy china part I bought. Do not cheap out if you need to replace hubs, get Timkens or OEM. #4 · May 31, 2021 The hub is tight. Seeing some grease down the hole bothered me a bit. I was thinking about replacing it also because its probably due. Definitely go with Timken. Thats whats in there now and it made it 120K. The OE only went 70K (190k total on the truck)
ChevyTech77 said: Grease won’t bother it much. That sensor needs to produce 700-1200 AC millivolts when spinning the hub by hand. If not, you need to take some material off the hub where the sensor mounts until the voltage comes up into that range. Click to expand...
I will get out the millivolt meter and check the signal. Do you just stick the probes into the plug and spin the tire? Show more replies 0 Reply #3 · May 30, 2021 Grease won’t bother it much. Put on the meter, spun the tire and nothing. Not even a blip. Time for a new AC Delco sensor 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
