440 LSX 4 Just bought a Hinson C5R timing chain from Summit and now came across all the posts saying it’s not a real C5R chain like the Katech chain. I’m also now seeing where Hinson says the C7R chain is a better chain. Cam Motion has a seamless chain that sounds similar to C7R chain for $84.99. Anybody know what the real story on these chains is and what is the best one to run? #1 · Mar 14, 2019 Just bought a Hinson C5R timing chain from Summit and now came across all the posts saying it’s not a real C5R chain like the Katech chain. I won't risk a single chain when the double is so easy to work with. CS1136 is the one i always use https://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLLMASTER...Timing-Chain-Set-P-N-CS1136/292989083677?hash=item443782a01d:g:rV8AAOSwdZJcepEy there's also the gold series for a bit more dollars i ran that same chain on my previous head/cam ls1 for 70,000 miles street and track and the final day i removed it it barely had any slack i was impressed #3 · Mar 15, 2019 (Edited) Got the same one Launch. With the single cam cover interference isn't bad. Double needs clearancing of the cover, nothing major. thought or think 2 is better than one when playing with my cam and it's events, no worries. #4 · Mar 15, 2019 i used a rollmaster dbl and didnt have timing chain to cover issues..that being said this was 5yrs ago..first and only time i used it..now all my shit gets ls2 chains or pro iwis ones..i look at it like this, when do you ever hear of a ls breaking a stock timing chain..its pretty much never even with them seeing 800 crank on the norm now in the real world on avg probably now a days.so unless your running a huge cam with a ton of spring then the pro iwis or ls2 will work really.the damper is a good idea too #5 · Mar 15, 2019 (Edited) I appreciate the input about the different chains. Those Rollmaster sets look like a good deal and I’m sure it is a good setup but I would probably prefer to stay with a single chain. I just can’t seem to find any reliable information about whether or not the Hinson really is a C5R equivalent or a cheaper chain that is just “similar”. Not finding much about real world evidence of the C7R being an improvement either. #6 · Mar 15, 2019 I’ve used that Hinson C5R chain in two engines. One was a mild H/C street car I put quite a few miles on, and one was the engine in my race car - spinning to 7800rpm. I had no issues with that chain. Are there better/strong chains? Perhaps, and even very likely so, but my experience was that it worked fine. #8 · Mar 15, 2019 Ok thanks. Did you notice much stretch in either of those chains? My engine will be race only and turning around 8200. What brand double was it? Can't comment on the c5r, ls2 or iwis is affordable here in Aus and works fine. When the double chain is whipping it has twice the mass of the single slapping around ;) #14 · Mar 16, 2019 Stick to your single chain but i have no issues whatsoever with rollmaster double roller either who here has clocked up 70k miles on a cammed then head/cam ls1 15+ years ago raced over 100x at the drag strip and much more on the street before we even had hoon laws and in a 3700lb car making close to 540fwhp the day i removed that rollmaster double it barely had any slack and i left it in there when i sold the car So everyone can run what the fuck you want and stop acting like you know it all 0 Reply #16 · Mar 16, 2019 They either changed their recipe or you got a dud. I'll see how mine is in my current engine when i remove it #17 · Mar 17, 2019 This guy seems quite proud of his chain ? https://www.corvetteforum.com/forum...d-induction-nitrous/3809364-lessons-in-timing-chains-and-one-with-no-equal.html #18 · Mar 17, 2019 Who makes the best chain for raised cam RHS block? #19 · Mar 17, 2019 Katech has a C5R for that block. 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
