Audience Analysis The effectiveness of a technical document or presentation is largely dependent on an accurate analysis of the target audience. By first establishing what type of reader your primary audience contains, you can tailor the level of complexity and detail your document should contain to achieve a maximum effect. If the reader is not given consideration during the planning process, the document may present too narrow or broad of a focus, and therefore, not serve the intended purpose. The amount of technical jargon, and the general style and voice of the document will largely depend on who the reader is—a …show more content…
The first audience will be viewing the presentation through the lens of business applications—how can this process make us better? The most effective modification of this presentation will keep in-line with what the students have already been taught by their professor. Instead of focusing on business applications, focus on why the fundamentals of the process will be important in their future careers. This modification would be appropriate to address the differences in career progression—prospective students vs. active professionals. 2. Use of Professional Jargon a. The first audience may have a significantly higher level of exposure to technical jargon than the college students may have, depending on the demographics of the class. Ensure that any acronyms, or jargon essential to the process, are detailed and explained accordingly to the group of students. Be sure to include explanations for any commonplace, non-technical, business jargon (e.g. Close of Business-COB). This modification would ensure the highest level of comprehension of the process in regards to the audience’s knowledge of jargon. 3. Vocabulary
