Cách Dùng Các Từ ABLE - ACCOMMODATION - OFF - NEEDLESS

I. ABLE  - CÓ THỂ

Bob said that the money was not able to be refunded.   ( false )

Bob said that he was unable to refund the money.   ( true )

Bob said that the money could not be refunded.    ( true )

=> Ta chỉ dùng "be able/unable to" khi chủ từ là người.

 

II. ADVERTISEMENT - QUẢNG CÁO

On page 4 there is an advertisement about a new computer.    ( false )

On page 4 there is an advertisement for a new computer.     ( true )

=> advertisement for something: quảng cáo cái gì. 

 

III. ACCOMMODATION - CHỖ Ở

Accommodations for overseas students can be arranged.    (American)

Accommodation for overseas students can be arranged.    (Bristish)

Ta có thể sắp xếp chỗ ở cho những sinh viên nước ngoài.

=> Trong tiếng Mỹ hình thức số nhiều "accommodations" được sử dụng, nhưng trong tiếng Anh "accommodation" là danh từ không đếm được và không có hình thức số nhiều.

 

IV. OFF - KHỎI

There was a lot of sand flying off from the back of the lorry.    ( false )

There was a lot of sand flying off the back of the lorry.        ( true )

Nhiều cát bay ra khỏi phía sau xe tải.

=> Trong tiếng Anh chuẩn, off không bao giờ được theo sau bởi from hay of.

 

VI. NEEDLESS TO SAY - KHÔNG CẦN PHẢI NÓI

Needless for me to say, these highly skilled workers are in great demand.   ( false )

Needless to say, these highly skilled workers are in great demand.    ( true )

Không cần phải nói, người ta rất cần những công nhân lành nghề này.

=> Needless to say là cụm từ cố định.

 

Needless to say that many people have complained about the new legislation.    ( false)

Needless to say, many people have complained about the new legislation.     ( true ) 

Không cần phải nói, nhiều người đã phàn nàn về bộ hiến pháp mới.

=> Needless to say ( trạng từ ) được theo sau bởi dấu phẩy và mệnh đề chính (không theo sau bởi that-clause.

 

VII. OPPORTUNITY - CƠ HỘI

Unfortunately, I didn't have opportunity for saying goodbye to her.    ( false )

Unfortunately, I didn't have opportunity to say goodbye to her.      ( true )

Thật không may, tôi không có cơ hội để nói lời tạm biệt với cô ta.

=> Opportunity to do: cơ hội để làm điều gì.
