I. Dùng"likely"như adj

1. Mang nghĩa"có thể xảy ra, có khả năng"

=You use likely to indicate that something is probably the case or will probably happen in a particular situation.

• likely to do something
• likely (that)
• more than likely (=almost certain)

IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:

• The most likely cause of the fire was a cigarette.
• The study shows some people are more likely to suffer back problems.
• It seems likely that interest rates will rise.
• It isn't likely to rain không chắc gì có mưa
• He is not likely to come now (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: có thể là nó không đến bây giờ it's very likely that)
• She'll ring me tonight; she's very likely to ring me tonight (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: rất có thể tối nay cô ta sẽ gọi điện thoại cho tôi)
• It’s more than likely I’ll see Ben this week.
• Experts say a 'yes' vote is still the likely outcome.
• If this is your first baby, it's far more likely that you'll get to the hospital too early.
• Francis thought it likely John still loved her.

2. Mang nghĩa"có xu hướng"

=If someone or something is likely to do a particular thing, they will very probably do it.

• Adolescents who watched more than two hours of TV a day were much more likely to be overweight.

3. Mang nghĩa"có vẻ thích hợp, có vẻ phù hợp"

=suitable, or almost certain to be successful/A likely person, place, or thing is one that will probably be suitable for a particular purpose.
