GIỚI THIỆU

WHO

Dùng WHO cho cả mệnh đề quan hệ xác địnhkhông xác định:

Ví dụ:

I think there’d be a lot of children who’d  love that game. (MĐ xác định)

That’s the dog who doesn’t like me.

Call this guy, who’s one of my friends. He will help you. (MĐ không xác định)

ZOOM IN

Cách dùng cụ thể:

Dùng WHO làm chủ ngữ hoặc tân ngữ của MĐQH

WHO có thể sử dụng làm chủ ngữ hoặc vị ngữ của mệnh đề quan hệ:

Ví dụ:

She’s going out with a man who’s very rich.

The policeman who you met yesterday was my cousin. (“who” ngầm chỉ “the policeman”, và là tân ngữ trong MĐQH)

WHO + giới từ

That’s the man who I talked to yesterday. (who ngầm chỉ “the man” và là tân ngữ của giới từ “to”)

Of all my friends, she’s the one who I know I can rely on. (Đặt giới từ on ở cuối mệnh đề)

Không đặt trước who: … the one on who I know I can rely.

That’s the man to whom I talked yesterday.

Of all my friends, she’s the one on whom I know I can rely.

WHO dùng cho danh từ tập hợp, chỉ nhóm người (collective groups of people)

Dùng WHO để chỉ nhóm người, ví dụ: committee, government, group, panel, police, team…

Ví dụ:

The petition was submitted to the government, who will then forward it to the parliament for consideration.

Không dùng WHO cho đồ vật:

Ví dụ:

There are some very good art books which you can get ideas from.

Không dùng who cho vật: There are some very good art books who you can get ideas from.
