I. Công thức

It is/ was not until + time word/ phrase/ clause + that... + S + VMãi cho đến….. thì…

Cấu trúc này được dùng nhằm nhấn mạnh khoảng thời gian hoặc thời điểm mà một sự việc xảy ra. Khoảng thời gian hoặc thời điểm có thể diễn tả bằng một từ, một cụm từ hoặc một mệnh đề.

Ví dụ:- She didn’t finish her exercises until yesterday.→ It was not until yesterday that she finished her exercises. (Mãi đến ngày hôm qua thì cô ấy mới làm xong hết bài tập.)- He didn’t go home until late in the evening.→ It was not until late in the evening that he came home. (Mãi cho đến tối muộn anh ta mới về nhà.)- He didn’t know the truth until he was 18.→ It was not until he was 18 that he knew the truth. (Mãi cho đến năm anh ta 18 tuổi thì anh ta mới biết sự thật.)

Lưu ý:

  • Lưu ý về thì:It is not until...that S + V(s/es)It was not until...that S + V2/ed
  • Cấu trúc "It is/was not until..." phải nối với mệnh đề theo sau bằng "that" không dùng "when"It was not until this morning that I heard the notification.KHÔNG VIẾT: It was not until this morning when I heard the notification.
