The CB01 GMT construction, production process and local supply chain give it an 87.59% sustainability score. This makes it 2.09 times more sustainable than a comparably priced series watch.
Less parts
A simplified two piece case and a monolayer dial have reduced the material need and machining time compared to the CB01, slightly improving sustainability score.
Raw and "Naked"
All the CB01 GMT components are finished by machining or are «raw». No environmentaly damaging galvanic processes, paints, inks, varnishes or glues are used.
Repurposed
The CB01 GMT encases a repurposed Soprod C125 automatic GMT movement sourced from a unused stock. Repurposed instead of manufactured.
Local
All components are manufactured in Switzerland with Swiss watchmaking methods, social conditions and environmental regulations. Switzerland ranks in the top 3 countries of the EPI 2020.
Less transport
The most effective way to reduce the C02 impact of watch production is to act locally and source materials and skills nearby. All CB01 GMT components are locally made and sourced.
Renewable energy
The CB01 GMT parts are manufactured using Swiss "Nature Made Star" certified local hydroelectric, solar, wind and biomass energy.
Less energy
The CB01 GMT has been designed and technically developed with fast production in mind. Less production time means less energy consumption.
Manufactured in-house
By manufacturing, hand-assembling and executing activities in-house and in Switzerland, transports, waste and energy consumption are mimimized.
State-of-the-art
By using only the newest and most efficient machines, work processes and methods. Like this energy and waste are minimized.
On order
Only what is ordered is produced. This eliminates stocks and therefore the waste represented by unsold items.

The design approach
The CB01-GMT is the new chapter of the CB01 story, originally designed with a skin-diver case, a popular watch case in 1960s and 1970s. The CB01-GMT has been designed to re-use the same toolings as the CB01 to avoid producing a new ones thereby saving a lot of energy. The technical conception makes the production processes even simpler and less energy and material consuming than the ones for the CB01. Like for the CB01, a repurposed movement has been used, sourced from a stock of unused Soprod C125 GMT automatic movements, some of which officially certified chronometers.
Like the CB01, the CB01 GMT is simple and "raw". A graphic, robust and sustainable tool-watch.
I am GMT
"I decided to use the iconic arrow hand commonly used for the GMT function because it clearly, and without possible doubt, claims the function".
Why a GMT?
The GMT is one of the most simple and useful complications in a globalized world. The better way to intuitively read 2 time zones at the same time. The GMT is also a typical tool-watch function (originally created for cave explorers as an AM/PM indicator) and as reliable as a time-only watch. From a design point of view, it’s a graphic function (additional hand) and the time function can be used in different ways: as a second time zone or as a day/night indicator. The simple, graphic, useful, reliable, qualities are the ones most welcome for a tool-watch.
The 1960s. Beige
The 1960s were the original skin-diver case era. The lume of the skin-diver watches from this time has become beige over time. The old radium color Superluminova ® allows the CB01-GMT to meet the watches coming from this decade. The white arrow contrasts harmoniously with the lume color and keeps the GMT function easily readable.
The 1990s. Orange
Orange GMT arrow-hands are iconic. On dashboard instruments, manometers and tools, the orange color is commonly used to identify a precise function thanks to its readability. The 1990s evoke the last era of mechanical devices; the first website went online in 1991, then things started to change. Today, displays have become mainly digital.
Meet the Creator
From a young age Cedric Bellon was fascinated by sciences, nature and crafts. He first studied geology and then laureated in product design at « L’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique ». At the age of 26 he discovered watch design and sent some concepts to Swiss watch brands. Bell & Ross, TAG Heuer and Longines gave him a chance and became his first clients. From then on, he was hooked by horology and made watch design his full-time career in 2005. Cedric is an advocate for sustainability in the watch industry. Instagram Website

My beloved places: Lapland, Canada, Brittany (France), Amorgos (Greece), Clisson, the village I live in (France), the cabin in my garden…
Pleasures
Hiking, contemplating, chopping wood, gardening, cooking, spending time with friends… a simple life! Melomaniac yet not musician, music has an important place in my life.
Ghostwriter
As designer I enjoy being a "ghostwriter" in the watchmaking industry, it's a very comfortable position! I feel grateful to the people who gave me the opportunities to work in such a passionate field and taught me so much.
Customers
In 2005, Bell & Ross and TAG Heuer were my very first customers in watchmaking. There were many others and for some I’m bonded with Non-Disclosure Agreement.
The inspiration From hand-tools to tool watch. In a world dominated by complex digital devices, hand-tools are soothing landmarks which are dedicated to a single purpose, made to age, and not predestined to obsolescence. They embody simplicity and sustainability.
The CB01 is the archetype of the sustainable watch: mechanical, simple, reliable, repairable, timeless…made to stay out of fashion cycles. Naturally gorgeous in its simple function. Taking on a patina over time. Even more beautiful after years of use.
When I first approached the project, I thought that I just had to use recycled materials to succeed. Soon by developing the watch with Watch Angels we’ve realized that a true sustainable project is much more than that. It's about finding what is needed from an existing “circle”, transform it into a new “circle” and, finally, made it ready for its future “circle”. In fact, to process in a cycle. The CBO1 GMT case-body and dial are made of from 100% PuReSteel® recyled 316L stainless steel produced in Europe. The case-back and buckle are made from repurposed scrap 316L steel from our factory.

Repurposed
The most sustainable for the planet is, of course, no production at all. The next best thing is to use what is available insetad of producing something new. That's why the CB01 GMT encases a Soprod C125 automatic GMT movement that has been sourced from an unused stock.
The sustainability report The CB01 GMT achieves a 87.59% sustainability score. The index is based on the weight of each single component. Each score is compared with the theoretical maximum achievable score. The index is an objective value that has been build to measure and compare sustainbility improvements on watch projects. The CB01 sustainability concept
The CB01 watches are produced in cycles where every cylcle creates the next. Special attention is given to all the ways to decrease the environmental impact of its production. The main guidelines are:
- Doing with limited resources (what we already have in the factory, what is already existing...)
- Less is better (design & specs)
- Local sourcing for less transport and Swiss social conditions for watchmakers
- Natural, neutral, recycled and recyclable materials
- Repurposing of components and tooling's
- Design and construction for fast production and less energy consumption.
- No galvanic and environmentally harmfull processes
