- CBM Calculator
Free online tool to calculate cubic meters, volume & weight for shipping and logistics.
CBM (Cubic Meter) is the standard measurement used across sea, air and road freight. Use our CBM Calculator to instantly compute volume, weight, volumetric weight, and container capacity based on your package dimensions.
Enter your carton length, width, height, weight and quantity, and the calculator will show results in cubic meters, cubic feet, kilograms, pounds and how many units fit into 20ft, 40ft and 40ft HQ containers.

- Length (m) × Width (m) × Height (m) = Volume in Cubic Meters (m³)
- Dimensions can be entered in meters, centimeters, inches, or feet.
CBM is used to understand how much physical space your cargo occupies. Our calculator supports multiple units, predefined products, and standard shipping containers including 20 ft, 40 ft, and 40 ft High Cube models.
What is Volumetric Weight?
Volumetric or dimensional weight applies when a package is large in size but light in weight. Carriers charge based on the space your shipment occupies, not just its actual mass.
The international air-cargo formula is:
Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 5000 = Volumetric Weight (kg)
Compare the volumetric weight with the actual weight—whichever is higher is typically used for freight billing.
Standard Shipping Container Dimensions
These dimensions are used for container capacity calculations:
| Container Type | Length (cm) | Width (cm) | Height (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 ft Container | 589 | 230 | 230 |
| 40 ft Container | 1200 | 230 | 230 |
| 40 ft High Cube | 1200 | 230 | 260 |
Why Use a CBM Calculator?
Key advantages for cargo planning and logistics:
- Optimized Container Loading: Achieve the most efficient use of container space by accurately calculating the cubic meter (CBM) of cargo. Maximize loading capacity and minimize wasted space.
- Precise Volume and Weight Calculations: Easily determine the total volume and weight of your shipments. This ensures compliance with weight limits and facilitates accurate planning for transportation costs.
- Streamlined Shipping Processes: Simplify the shipping process by quickly assessing how various products or packages can be arranged within a container. This feature enhances overall logistics planning and execution.
- Time and Cost Savings: By optimizing container loads, businesses can reduce the number of shipments needed, leading to potential cost savings on transportation and logistics. Efficient loading also minimizes the time required for cargo handling.
- Integration Flexibility: Seamlessly integrate the CBM Calculator into your existing systems, websites, ERP software, and other cloud-based applications. This ensures compatibility with your current workflow and enhances overall efficiency of your operations.
- Enhanced Accuracy: Eliminate guesswork and enhance accuracy in cargo planning. The CBM Calculator provides precise calculations, reducing the risk of errors associated with manual measurements and estimations.
- User-Friendly Interface: Enjoy a user-friendly interface that simplifies the process of entering product details and selecting containers. Visualize loading plans in 3D for a better understanding of cargo distribution.
- Improved Decision-Making: Access detailed insights into your cargo’s volume and weight distribution, empowering better decision-making in terms of container selection, shipping methods, and overall logistics strategy.
Overall, a CBM calculator improves accuracy, speed and cost-efficiency in day-to-day shipping and logistics.
