Phua Chu Kang is the titular character of his series. He is played by Gurmit Singh. He is a contractor and the CEO of PCK Pte Ltd. He is the brother of Chu Beng and husband of Rosie, who calls him Chu. His mother is Ah Ma, who calls him Kang Kang.

Phua Chu Kang first appeared in Season 2 of "Gurmit's World", a show where Gurmit Singh portrayed characters in a series of skits.

Chu Kang then gained his own series, Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, first appearing in Licence to Build.

Appearance[]

Chu Kang has curly hair and a large facial mole, usually wearing his white uniform and iconic yellow boots. He keeps one pinky fingernail long to scratch his ears. It is stated is the that was something that his father advised him to do. Toto Chaos

Personality[]

Chu Kang is a stereotypical "Ah Beng" who lacks good manners, often sitting with one leg hoisted up on his chair and scratching his ears.

Margaret once complained that he had embarrassed her on multiple occasions by burping and farting in the presence of her friends. Guest Control

History[]

As a child, he studied at Sang Nila Utama Primary School, along with his brother and Frankie Foo. School Ties He used to stay in Kreta Ayer, together with Ah Ma and his brother. They were neighbours with Mdm Chong and her son Kenny.

He and Frankie later worked for the same boss, Wong Tua Kee, in the 1980s, and fought over Rosie. Days of Being Young Part 1He was fired from the company after Wong Tua Kee misunderstood that he left all his work to Frankie, though it was the latter who was slacking. So Chu Kang decided to set up his own company, PCK Pte Ltd, adopting the slogan "Best in Singapore and JB" based on trying to be better than his ex boss' slogan "Best in Singapore". Rosie[]

Chu Kang is a loving husband to Rosie though he dislikes frequently having to lend money to her for her mahjong and slim wraps. When they were dating Chu Kang permed his hair together with her. CK 2 She knows him well enough to be able to tell when he is being too nice to her and if he has hidden intentions.

They had twin children named Romeo Ferrari and Crystal Jade at the end of Season 6.

Chu Beng[]

Chu Kang has a good relationship with his little brother although they occasionally disagree over things such as changing Chu Beng's architectural designs. The two of them refer to themselves as "The Brothers Phua".

Margaret[]

Chu Kang feels distaste towards Margaret, disliking her eccentricity, calling her skinny and questioning her skills.

Aloysius[]

Chu Kang and Aloysius have a generally good relationship throughout the series with the latter worshipping him more than Chu Beng. This can be seen Season 3 episode 'The Wrestler' where Aloysius would prefer Chu Kang over his Father Chu Beng as his wrestling partner.
