ghl G Recently bought a 05 plate Touran and fell down the hole of not ensuring that it had 2 keys when I did the deal. I therefore now have a car with a single key/remote... Priced up an extra key from the local VW dealer and they want £190. I was wondering what the most cost effective way of getting a 2nd key was. I've seen places on the web that do full kits of 2 keys, ignition lock, door lock and glove box lock but then wasn't sure how you'd then fit them (without immobilising the car) and get them all coded up to the car. I've seen places that advertise doing spare keys and will code up to the car, but I'm assuming then, that you don't get an additional remote. Also seen somewhere that to re-link a remote that has lost it's code to the car you need both keys. Won't be falling down this hole again!! Any help/advice/experience appreciated #1 · May 18, 2012 Recently bought a 05 plate Touran and fell down the hole of not ensuring that it had 2 keys when I did the deal. As I said the dealer wanted £190 for a spare key however I found a place in York called Caboodle (Foxwood Lane, Acomb, York) Caboodle - Car Keys York - Car Key Cutting Specialists who can come out to your car if you've lost your keys or can do full spare keys for you. They said that the remote key fob looked identical to a VW one (can't recall if they said it was a VW one or just a copy) but not sure about what a 'plain' key looks like. They gave pricing of approx £140 for a remote key and £80 for just a key with no remote. I've not tried them yet, but thought I'd post here in case anyone else needed a key and didn't want to pay VW dealer prices :) #4 · Jun 3, 2012 I would have thought that receiving 2 keys with the car was the norm and to be expected, and I would have expected the advert to say only 1 key available in your case. You never know the other might be hanging on a hook in their office! #5 · Jun 4, 2012 some Branches of Timpson can copy original car keys with all the buttons on a flip out key expect to pay around £90-£130 (still cheaper than dealer) #6 · Jun 4, 2012 Is that coded aswell? as the dealer one priced will be . I would get it done at vw , lot easier imho Show more replies 0 Reply #8 · Jun 5, 2012 Heres what i done, Buy a key from ebay, the flip part is no use to you (you need to check the part no on the remote as they look very similar 1K0 or 1J0 and order it accordingly probably pay £10-£15). then you only need to buy a new flip part for it. The second hand remote can then be coded to the car when you take it to the dealer to get your key coded (never had any success with locksmiths as they said it was a VW job). Your other option is with the second hand key you bought you can get a new blade from VW for your car and order this New Blank, VW Can Key Transponder Chip Megamos crypto 2 | eBay Apparently this is the immobiliser chip inside the key (pick off the VW logo on the key with a pin and theres a small screw under it which allows you to open the key, practise on the scrap key nothing lost at this moment, remove the chip and replace it with the new one and t #9 · Aug 29, 2013 Depending what area your in, you can use an Auto locksmith which deals with Volkswagen keys and they be able to provide you with a spare some times even on the same day. #10 · Sep 19, 2015 Found 2 locksmiths, one in Oxford - http://www.keypit.co.uk/locksmith/autosecurity.htm Another in Aylesbury but he was doing a job in Oxford so met in Oxford, I lived outside his area. http://www.locksmithaylesbury.com/aylesbury-van-locks Cost for a duplicate key for 2006 VW Golf MK5 Keypit £145 Aylesbury £125 Used Aylesbury, took about 25 mins. 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
