The half equation for this oxidation of ethanol is CH3CH2OH -> CH3CHO + 2H+ + 2e− What is the mole ratio of dichromate(VI) ions to ethanol in this redox react. The answer is 1:3 but I dont know why.0ReportReply 1Avatar for ChanaradhChanaradh7Original post by saranya4Dichromate(VI) ions, Cr2O72− in dilute sulfuric acid, react with ethanol, CH3CH2OH, on warming to form chromium(III) ions and ethanal, CH3CHO. The half equation for this oxidation of ethanol is CH3CH2OH -> CH3CHO + 2H+ + 2e− What is the mole ratio of dichromate(VI) ions to ethanol in this redox react. The answer is 1:3 but I dont know why.the answer is 1:3 because if you write the half equation for the reduction of Dichromate ( 14H+ + Cr2O72- +6e- ->2Cr3+ +7H2O) as well as the oxidation of the ethanol. When you combine the 2 half equations you need to balance the number of electrons, therefore the oxidation of ethanol half equation needs to be multiplied by 3.2Report
