Early life[]

Cheng Xiao was born on July 15, 1998 in Shenzhen, China, where she took dance lessons as a child.[1] Cheng Xiao also has a younger sister named Cheng Chen.[2]

History[]

2015-2016: Debut with WJSN[]

On Dec 11, 2015, she was revealed as a member of Starship's upcoming 12 member girl group, WJSN, as a part of the Wonder Unit, along with members Dayoung and Bona.[3] She debuted with WJSN on Feb 25, 2016, with their debut mini album, WOULD YOU LIKE?.[4]

As a dance performance for SBS's Gayo Dajeun, Cheng Xiao and Luda participated in a modern dance and ballet team along with BTS's Jimin, Lovelyz' Yein, and TWICE's Mina and Momo.[5]

In another special unit called "Sunny Girls", Cheng Xiao along with GFriend's Eunha, Oh My Girl's YooA, Momoland's Nancy, and Gugudan's Nayoung released a single "TAXI" on Nov 27, 2016 for Inkigayo's Music Crush project.

2017[]

In September 2017, Cheng Xiao was revealed to participate in upcoming ballet variety show called "Swan Club",[6] which She performed a ballet version of Sunmi's "Gashina".[7]

On December 11, 2017 Cheng Xiao became a mentor on Chinese Idol Producer, along with GOT7's Jackson and PRISTIN's Kyulkyung.[8]

2018: Chinese activities, hiatus from WJSN[]

On August 20, 2018, Cheng Xiao was confirmed as a MC for new variety show "Pajama Friends" along with Red Velvet's Joy, Song Ji-hy, and Jang Yoon-ju.[9]

On September 2, 2018, Starship Entertainment announced that Cheng Xiao would be unable to participate in promotions for WJSN's comeback with WJ PLEASE? due to conflicting schedules with her promotions in China[10], although she was featured in b-sides "Hurry Up" and "You & I" from the album. Since then, she has yet to return to promotions with WJSN.

2019: Final activities with WJSN[]

In August, 2019, WJSN held their second fan meeting WJ STATION, in which Cheng Xiao made a surprise appearance. This marks the final time Cheng Xiao appeared on stage with WJSN.

Later this year, Cheng Xiao along with fellow Chinese members, Xuan Yi and Mei Qi, returned to Korea for the photoshoot of WJSN's 2020 season's greetings. This marked the last time WJSN was together as 13 members, although Starship Entertainment continued to recognize Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao, and Mei Qi as WJSN members up until their official departure in 2023.

2020: Solo debut[]

On December 28, 2020, Cheng Xiao debuted as a soloist on China with her first single "Focus-X".

2023: Departure from WJSN[]

On March 3, 2023, Starship Entertainment announced that the contracts for Cheng Xiao, along with fellow Chinese members, Xuan Yi and Mei Qi, which were shared with Yue Hua Entertainment in their participation with WJSN had automatically concluded.[11]
