Chengyuan, also known as CY, is a Ph.D. student in Media Arts and Technology. His research focuses on applying image processing, machine learning, and computer vision algorithms to solve real-world problems. He is currently working on creating a tool for astronomers to acquire higher-quality images from ground-based telescopes. Before his graduate study at UCSB, CY was a video journalist covering China. His research topics are closely related to his passion for visual documentation. The transition from Cable News Network to Convolutional Neural Networks is an effort to make the world a better place through science rather than media.   CY will be working with Michael Curtin and Victor Faessel on 21st-Century Global Dynamicis publication initiatives.   Fellowship term: Summer 2020
