Why She's A Terrible Wife
- Even before becoming the annoying character she is today, she was already shown to have that tendency at the end of Dragon Ball, where she rudely yelled at Goku for understandably not recognizing her after 3 years since she looked completely different than she did as a kid. While she was mad at Goku for a good reason, as she thought he broke the promise he made of marrying her, she didn't have to be so rude about it.
- She originally just had a bit of a fiery temper, but as time went on, she became an overprotective, nagging wife and mother who wanted Gohan and Goten to become scholars, not caring if the world gets destroyed.
- Also, she can't just force her boys to be scholars, if they have different plans, then the least she can do is support them fully for what they want to be in life.
- Also also, she should care if the world is in danger. It's her home and also, her boys won't "be scholars".
- Since Super, she's especially domineering over her son Goten, preventing him from going off to train with Goku even when he really wants to and still forcing him to be a scholar, which is something he doesn't want to be, which is one of the reasons why he's treated as a side character with little development, alongside Trunks.
- This also may be the reason Goten loses his taste for fighting by End of Z, yet immediately she and Goku force him to train once they realize he doesn't like it anymore, which is completely ridiculous.
- What makes this even worse is the fact that she used to train Goten all the time for the first years of his life, but after Goku’s revival, she seems to have abandoned that and gone back to her old, nagging self.
- While both of her voice actors still do great jobs voicing her, Her screaming and crying is EAR-PIERCING AS HELL!
- She called Goten a "monster/delinquent" when he accidentally unlocked Super Saiyan during a training session.
- She cannot take even the slightest bit of criticism which pretty much proves how stubborn and immature she is. One example is when she got into numerous arguments with Bulma, and when Yamcha at one point told them that it was quite immature at their ages to be fighting like that, they didn't listen and punched him.
- She has no empathy for her friends. One example includes not allowing Gohan to accompany Bulma and Krillin on their journey to Planet Namek so they can collect the Namekian Dragon Balls and wish their fallen friends back, something that arguably crosses the line when he rightfully tells her to shut up.
- Her suicidal carelessness. For example, when Super Buu bragged about killing Gohan, she slapped him across the face despite Piccolo repeatedly warning her not to, prompting an enraged Buu to turn her into an egg and crush her to death.
- She's a massive hypocrite. She claims that Pan should act more ladylike, yet acts tomboyish herself.
- She's shown to be rather greedy: when learning of the World Martial Arts Tournament's prize money, she immediately had Gohan stop studying to train so he could win the prize money, again showing her hypocrisy.
- In the Saiyan Saga, in the anime, after the battle with Vegeta, she was only concerned with Gohan's injuries and not Goku's, completely ignoring him. Yajrobe calls her out on this.
- She gets angry for even the smallest reasons. An example is when she flipped out for no reason when she saw Gohan and Mr. Satan playing with Pan, thinking they were throwing her around when in reality they weren't hurting her at all and she was just flying because she's part Saiyan.
- She's a liar and doesn't have a problem with it at all. After Mr. Satan gave Goku $100,000,000 to save the world from Majin Buu, Chi-Chi lied and said she spent it all just so she could force Goku to work more instead of training.
- As of today, her character has received zero development whatsoever, being treated as an annoying side character who says stupid things that aren't even important.
- She's pretty much lost all the attractive looks she used to have after the Cell Saga. Out of all the characters, she looks like she's aged the most, with her originally being an extremely beautiful teenage girl, and now she just looks like she's in her 50s.
Redeeming Qualities
- Fortunately, especially for fans, Chi-Chi considers herself the less important secondary character in Dragon Ball franchise, despite she always deserves worse until she gives up at the end of the story.
- Both her voice actors (Naoko Watanabe, Michelle Ruff, and Cynthia Cranz) still do great jobs voicing her (whenever she's not screaming, yelling, or crying, at least).
- Her original design is very beautiful and attractive for a very beautiful girl.
- Since she's Goku's love interest and wife, it's safe to say that without her, the Dragon Ball franchise wouldn't be as great as it is, because if Goku never married her, Gohan and Goten, the two lovable characters who are exactly like Goku, wouldn't exist.
- She ultimately still does love her family, even if she's strict with them.
- Even if she doesn't approve of Goku going off to train on his own, she still loves him. She also still loves Goku and her children. She goes out of her way several times to help him, such as taking care of Goku when he was dealing with the Heart Virus, getting worried when Goku wasn't eating his usual rations after the Tournament of Destroyers, and making him a meal during the Future Trunks saga when he hadn't come home. Goku wasn't exactly wrong when he said she's too good for him when you think about it like that.
- Even when she tries to forbid Goku from going off to train with Whis again when he leaves, she doesn't freak out about it and knows that Goku means well, showing a surprisingly calm and understanding reaction.
- Despite her anger, she has a point that Goku needs a job to survive rather than just fighting evil.
- She bawled her eyes out when she saw Gohan unconscious after the fight with Vegeta and held him in her arms.
- When she is revived along with everyone else with the Namekian Dragon Balls and sees Goten, the very first thing she does is hug him in relief that he's okay.
- She puts up with Goku constantly leaving her to train and being gone for years on end, especially for the seven years he was dead and didn't help to raise either Gohan or Goten. Even, he wasn't even there when Goten was born. As Vegeta said, it's honestly a miracle that Goku is still married after everything he put her through.
- She has a sad and relatable backstory about her mother dying from an unknown illness shortly after giving birth to her.
- She used to be tolerable in the original Dragon Ball series.
- She can be quite tolerable and likable whenever she's not acting strict and whenever she is not being mean-spirited to Goku.
- She somewhat redeemed herself and somewhat reverted back to her original personality in the Buu Saga and became a little more tolerable here since she lets Gohan and Goten train with each other and she became a bit softer towards her husband Goku and her children too.
- Her dislike of Piccolo may be somewhat understandable, given that he repeatedly tried to kill Goku and subjected Gohan to a year of brutal training at the age of just four (though it was a request from Goku). Not to mention that she and Bulma called him out when he wouldn't even let Trunks and Goten rest during their training, although they're children.
- She does realize her mistakes when she makes them. For example she once made the mistake of hiring a tutor named Mr. Shu to help Gohan with his studies. However, Mr. Shu turned out to be an abusive teacher who berated Gohan and hit him with a whip whenever he believed Gohan was out of line. Upon finding out Mr. Shu's true colors, Chi-Chi immediately fired the abusive tutor and threw him out of a window.
- She does get hilarious whenever she nags Goku for doing something stupid and the time when she caught her father and Master Roshi being perverts and peeping toms at women, calling them out for their behavior
- She may have intended to apologize to Goten for spanking him, even though she at first felt as if she had a reason for that.

Trivia
- Her name means "milk" in Japanese.
- The reason Chi-Chi dislikes Super Saiyans is because in Japan, dyed-blonde hair is often associated with delinquency. So when she sees Gohan and Goten go SSJ, she sees them as becoming rebellious and disobedient.
- Two alternate timeline versions of Chi-Chi met untimely ends: the Chi-Chi from Future Trunks' timeline was killed during Goku Black and Future Zamasu's attack on Earth, and the Chi-Chi from Goku Black's timeline was decapitated by Black with a ki blade.
- She might be the example of an Asian tiger mom who only pushes her children because she wants the best for them.
- Akira Toriyama has stated that Chi-Chi is his least favorite Dragon Ball character.
