Eunsonboy E Has anyone got a tuning plug in chip on a 2.5TDi from energytuning? Is it any good or not realy worth the money? A re-map is not an option for me living in Shetland. I am just looking for a little better power on the hills not maximum power. #1 · Jan 17, 2011 Has anyone got a tuning plug in chip on a 2.5TDi from energytuning? Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Jan 17, 2011 I've got one for my Rover but I've not fitted it yet.....I: they have a good rep on the MG-Rover forum for use on the earlier 200/400 diesels, the only reason I've not fitted mine yet is it's more complicated on the rover than a veedub, and I'm elbow deep in refitting the van...... #3 · Jan 17, 2011 You could use our postal service? http://www.ghetuning.co.uk/ We have some good deals on for forum members at the moment and the ECU should normally be turned around in a day. #4 · Jan 18, 2011 How much would a re-map cost? What improvements could I expect? #5 · Jan 18, 2011 Depends on what your starting with, and what your willing to do / change. Chip Wizards seem to get upto 120bhp from a blue 'i' tdi, upto 130bhp from a silver 'i' tdi. And upto 150ish bhp from a van with the bigger .216 injectors. They are doing a special offer until the end of Jan, which is only 150 for a van running standard injectors. Reckon you would normally be paying 300 upwards for a good re-map. 1 Reply #7 · Jan 19, 2011 The van has an AJT engine 88bhp standard. I have fitted Bosch injectors (with standard size nozzles for a 102bhp van) an intercooler and panel filter, the only thing I would be concerned about is mapping without live data and ending up with a van that smokes, drinks fuel or is not reliable and I can't go back to standard! #9 · Jan 19, 2011 I understand your concerns. If you wanted to give me a call we can discuss over the phone what we could do. Any remap can be reverted back to the original file whenever you require it. The best way around this is to get to the mainland and get it remapped with logs before and after but like you said that maybe difficult. All I can do is reassure you that the software we use is one of the best, check them out www.dnatuning.com 1 Reply #8 · Jan 19, 2011 I'd recommend getting it onto the mainland and getting it re-mapped/tuned by a pro. I took my 102bhp 2.5TDi to chipwhizard and he got it upto a comfortable 135 bhp without any issues. All of that for only £150. a great deal as you'll find it at an average of £230-250 on the market normally. It' now pulls up the hills like a good'un and drives better on the MPG side of life as well.T: Drop him a line on here to discuss what your options are. There are a load of others on here that would be happy to help as well by the looks of it. #11 · Jan 19, 2011 Since we are talking about chip tuning I would like to make a question. :) To chip my ecu I have to remove the original chips and solder a two smd sockets. I know that I can copy the original files to the new chips if I want to go back, but I would like to now if I can fit the original chips on the sockets? I also would like to have my van tuned by chip wizard, but I can’t. I’m too far way. :( João #12 · Jan 20, 2011 João, I take it your van is pre 2000 which it will be running a MSA15 or even earlier MSA12 engine control unit, the MSA15 runs a pair of PLCC32 27C010 chips that are write once so you need to de-solder these from the PCB and what we do here is then solder sockets onto the PCB (ECU Board) that the PLCC32 27C010 chips can push in and out of. Yes you can put the original chips you desolder back into the Sockets that you solder onto the board. We replace the 27C010 write once chips with re flashable chips so when we are tweaking the software to perfection we can just remove the chips and flash them again instead of having to use a new pair of write once chips. The MSA15 engine control unit is just behind the N/S headlight, you first pull the boost pipe off which is at the inner wing side, once this is off there is a release tab on the ecu connector plug just where you pulled the boost pipe off, slide this towards the inner wing and then the connector will release. You will now see where you have removed the connection plug there are two screws holding the ecu to the backplate / carrier. Remove these screws and then you can remove the ecu. (Takes all of 5mins max to remove these) I do urge people to get these vehicles tuned correctly instead of having them flashed by some of these cheap file flashers that seem to have popped up all over the place as really they have no idea what so ever about the software they are writing into the vehicles. It was only the other day I had to re tune a 130 T5 as some muppet car park tuner had tuned it and how the engine survived I have no idea, it was a % tuner I call them... % here and % there on the software and its tuned. i.e. 15% on the boost maps as this surely must make it faster lol I'm going to start naming and shaming these cowboy tuners with screen shots of maps they have changed and explanations in detail on what they have done. Regards Martin PendlePerformance 1 Reply #14 · Jan 20, 2011 João has a 1.9 TDi in his van (from a T5 if I remember correctly, but my memory isn't what it used to be....) that he converted himself, so he may need some different "chip tuning" to the 2.5 boys.......T: #19 · Jan 20, 2011 The engine isn't from a T5 but from SEAT Ibiza 2001 :) Mine is VP and the T5 are PD engines. João 0 Reply #15 · Jan 20, 2011 Thanks for the info PendlePerfomance! It would be great to get a map done by you or Chip Wizards, but I would have to go on a ferry for 14 hours costing around £400 then drive for 8 hours to get to you! In youre opinion are any of the plug in tunning boxes any good or are they just a crude program forcing more fuel in and doing damage to an engine? #16 · Jan 20, 2011 Have you spoken with Jason over at More-BHP yet? I seem to remember that he had an agent up in Scotland when I last spoke with him. www.more-bhp.com He uses the same software as me and is definately not one of these so called 'car park tuners' as Martin puts it. :db W: Show more replies 0 Reply #21 · Jan 21, 2011 I fully support and recommend Martin at Pendle! I drove from Norway (3 day drive) to get my 102 remapped, and whilst I was a little p*ssed at having to leave my van outside a Gym (his "office" that day), and walk around Pendle village for 3 hours in the pouring down rain (maybe I could have stayed with him, but I had my 75 year old mum and wife with me....+ a dog, so went "shopping"), his mapping was wonderful. Haven't got any before/after figures....but the driving says it all....and he allowed for the -15C temps we often have here. 2 years on...NO PROBLEMS!!!!! #22 · Jan 21, 2011 (Edited) Martin must have carried out some logs. 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
