Court suspends prison sentence for Cho Hyun-ah despite macadamia tantrum

Save Former Korean Air (KAL) executive Cho Hyun-Ah (C) leaves after she received a suspended jail sentence and was freed by a Seoul appeals court in Seoul on May 22, 2015, after she had been jailed for a year in February for disrupting a flight in a rage over macadamia nuts. The High Court in Seoul ruled that the behaviour of Cho Hyun-Ah, the eldest daughter of the airline's chairman, had not resulted in a change of flight path -- the most serious charge against her -- and handed down a reduced suspended sentence. According to media reports on 12 February, Cho Hyun-Ah has been found guilty and will serve one year in prison. Cho, 40, flew into a rage on board a Seoul-bound Korean Air flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on 05 December 2014, when the attendant reached her a bag of macadamia nuts in a bag rather than on a plate. Cho was a vice-president of the airline at the time. A blazing row ensued in which Cho ordered the pilots to return the aircraft to the gate where she had the chief steward thrown off. EPA/KIM CHUL-SOO
