#1 · Feb 26, 2020 Hi everyone, I'm about to buy a MY18 V40 T4 Momentum (Which i am pretty sure that sports the B4204T19 Drive-E engine, with 190PS) here in Brazil and am very excited about joining the club. Though i've got a good deal on the car and am pretty much set on it, i'm still doing my research. What would you guys describe as the most common problems/issues of the car? It seems that the door locks not working properly, especially those of the rear doors, is a pretty common issue, would you agree on that? Cheers! Thank you, that is very encouraging! I'm really excited about getting this car, i read several threads before registering and everybody seems to love their V40s. I know that the XC60 transmissions have a bad rep but couldn't find anything like that over here, i think i can assume that this is not the case. 0 Reply #4 · Feb 27, 2020 Hello there, I'm driving the same car for 3 years now and I still enjoy it! No real issues so far. Few cars can produce a whining noise from the balance shafts, mine was one of them, but it was solved by Volvo under warranty. #5 · Feb 27, 2020 Start budgeting for tyres after 12,500 miles / 20,000 kms. Or you could just swap them from front to rears perhaps after 7k miles / 13k kms. #6 · Feb 27, 2020 just make sure that any recall issues have already been dealt with, as they like to ask you to come in and then make YOU pay for items Volve have told them to check, common sense says if Volve are asking items to be checked on a recall they (Volvo ) should pay for it as they know its an issue!!!!!!! #7 · Feb 27, 2020 As far as I know there are no recalls for this model. And indeed, swap front wheels to the rear so that you can replace them all 4 in one go when needed. I did this at 12000km and now at 22000km, it's time for replacement. #8 · Feb 27, 2020 Definitely rear door lock, both of mine have had to be replaced. Paint is fairly thin so stone chips can be bad, my mirrors are especially bad. Most of the r-design models have diamond cut alloys, like any diamond cut alloy these so have a tendency to suffer with lacquer peel. Probably the most common issue is the egr valve on the 2.0 diesels but you don't have to worry about that. Drivers door seals can deform easily. In general though they're pretty good cars. #9 · Feb 28, 2020 This post has received a lot more attention than i expected, thank you so much for sharing your experiences!! I did some research and i am positive that there are no due recalls and no shady past, but asked the owner to take the car to a paint inspection just in case. Did not notice any weird noises in the car while driving or as a passenger. Wheels are beautiful diamond cut 18's, guess this is going to be a pain at some point... Though the door locks are a tad expensive over here and the car might need new tyres soon, it seems like a greenlight to me as nothing hints of critical failures coming soon. #10 · Feb 28, 2020 If you remove your door card ans apply a generous amount of oil on the locks it can prevent them from just stopping to work, the replacement are the same lock with just a better fitting cover to prevent water getting in and causing them to seize, so oil and wrap before they seize, could save you hundreds in cash, plus the time and inconvenience of having to cet then booked in and replaced #11 · Feb 28, 2020 .Someone on here has found that lifting the door handle and using the remote at the same time can cause the lock to break. #12 · Feb 28, 2020 I believe it's the solenoid that fails ,mine were replaced after mother-in-law used door handle at the same time as I pressed the global unlock button,well I blame her anyway. #13 · Mar 2, 2020 HAHAHAHA i would blame mine even if she was away from the car... That's just for the rear doors or others tend to fail the same way? Is it possible to install an aftermarket lock module to mitigate this? Is it still present in the later models? I know that the chances of getting this done are slim, but prevention sounds like the best thing to do in that case... 0 Reply #14 · Mar 2, 2020 I think the door lock issue was fixed from MY2015. At least my 2013 had this issue, 2015 one has never had #15 · Mar 2, 2020 our car a 2015, with less than 31000 miles on the clock and the rear door lock stopped working , #16 · Mar 3, 2020 2015 is a transition year.
