gmoney G Anyone have any issues with a clicking noise from the front suspension/wheel area when turning? Seems to happen when traveling forward or reverse. It happens more when turning into an incline or decline. Thanks! #1 · Apr 20, 2017 Anyone have any issues with a clicking noise from the front suspension/wheel area when turning? If it gets more frequent/higher pitched with speed, then it's a worn wheel bearing: http://www.brakeandfrontend.com/wheel-bearing-noise-diagnostics/ Perhaps you hit a curb? Or maybe just a perky pothole? #3 · Apr 20, 2017 Thanks for sharing the link and the info. Not a curb but in the mid Atlantic after the winter a pothole could definitely be the culprit. Is this covered under the warranty? #4 · Apr 20, 2017 I would guess warranties should cover it. I had wheel bearing problems on a Ford Explorer and on a Range Rover. Both were covered under the warranty. It's also a good problem to have. Quick fix, shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred, in parts and labor, under the worst-case scenario. 0 Reply #5 · Sep 19, 2017 Resurrecting this thread... Any more feedback? Vehicle is at the dealer now and they can't duplicate the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! #6 · Sep 19, 2017 My experience with Volvos include both wheel bearings on the 03 XC90 and cv joint on the 12 XC60. Wheel bearings typically hum or roar at speed. One may be so used to it that its not noticed until a passenger gets in the car and hears it. These are expensive to replace on a Volvo. Clicking sounds when turning is classic cv joint. Generally the only time they click is when front wheels turn in either direction. Expensive but not nearly as expensive as wheel bearings. But when the cv is going bad it will generally make that sound almost always when turning. If dealer can't duplicate it there may be another issue. #7 · Sep 19, 2017 where did you take it to get it looked at? #8 · Sep 19, 2017 Thanks for the most recent responses. It's at Annapolis Volvo. #9 · Sep 19, 2017 I have it too, it happens every time I brake in low speed turning. My dealer has no idea about that, and they also can't duplicate the issue. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk #10 · Sep 20, 2017 Mine started doing this after about 60000 km. I had the same issue on the older XC90 model, and Volvo was never able to fix it. I expect it to be the same with this new XC90. :-( 1 Reply #12 · Apr 16, 2021 Check for any play in the front axles and possible under torqued axle bolt. Also, check the upper control. Those arm are common to wear out quickly. My dealer replaced mine under warranty @ 45K miles. I usually use a bit of wheel bearing grease when ever I need to pop off the cv shaft for lower control arm bushings. #14 · Apr 18, 2021 I have this issue and the dealer always claims they can't reproduce it, but I hear it almost every day. Only after the car has been driven for a while, never after its been sitting. I just mentioned it again when it was in to get the middle seat folding strap replaced and they replaced all 4 disc brake shields with newer dampened ones. I'm skeptical that that's going to be the fix but we'll see... Hopefully it at least solves the rattling over bumpy roads issue. #15 · Apr 19, 2021 Unsurprisingly the brake disc shields didn't solve the problem and now its worse. They replaced my starter while it was in because of an intermittent issue with the auto start/stop not restarting, and i'm wondering if they would have had to disconnect the motor mount or subframe to do that? If so I think it's likely either a bad motor mount or a subframe bushing. In any event, time to try another dealer. Between this and them telling me that my steering wheel wobbling while accelerating around 18mph is a known issue with the supercharger (what?!?) I need to test a different service department.
