Check the oil level on the clutch/brake fluid reservoir (the little one towards the bulkhead) - the fluid is shared between the brakes and clutch funnily enough. There are 2 outlet 'pipes' coming from it - the upper one will be the clutch, and the lower one for the brakes. If the upper one isn't getting fluid into it, you'll have introduced air into the clutch system, and as such could expect this behaviour. I found that mine was marginal, and at times will have been letting air into the system. If it needs topping up, DOT4 is what you need - Don't overfill though. Due to the 2 'pipes' coming out the reservoir and the way the system works, the brakes 'should' be fine - meaning you should be able to drive without that issue. When mine went wrong - I learnt how to bleed the system (after buying a Haynes manual) - and that lasted for a quite a few weeks, but ultimately I had to have the Slave cylinder replaced due to it still leaking fluid. It's expensive to get rectified (circa £400) as the gearbox has to come out. Hope this helps? #3 · Jan 7, 2019 A bit late, but I’ve had similar problems with my 2012 T5. Loacal family garage suggested replacing the pipe just before that which takes the clutch fluid into the bell housing. Apparently a T shape pipe which is at the bleed nipple. Seems the o-rings start to fail allowing the system to draw air in, but no noticeable leak. Cost for the pipe is about £50 Issue is then bleeding the clutch system as the bleed nipple is before the concentric slave cylinder. The first garage changed to pipe, but it wasn’t much improvement, another pressure bled the system which was better and today they’ve re-bled and the pedal feel is back to what it originally was. I’m hoping this has worked. Certainly cheaper than a clutch change. #4 · Feb 8, 2019 Re: Clutch problem UPDATE I ended up getting the clutch, dmf and concentric slave cylinder replaced. When the garage removed the ‘box it was apparent that the slave was leaking, but the fluid was collecting inside the bell housing but not dripping from the weep hole. I suppose I should have gone with my initial diagnosis of a failing slave cylinder and just got it done rather than spend weeks struggling with the pedal dropping, repeated bleeding of the system and replacing the master cylinder.
