John1503 J I had my 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 converted to bi fuel CNG. Some have asked for cost and results so here it is. CNG Specialist is Oklahoma City did the work and supplied all equipment for a total cost of $8,500. The following is a list of the parts. Stag Controler, Blackstone hi flow regulator. Hanna hi pressure injectors, 21x60 tank. The price also included all the labor, stainless steel lines, hoses and filters They also put on a custom Line X coated cover, it matches the Line X bed spray on I just had done. It fits perfect and you see nothing even when trying. They sent off the OEM computer had it unlocked and permanently turned off the MDS, at my request. They said the MDS does not have to be off but it does help and I did not like it anyway. They advanced the timing and have the Stag controller working with the trucks computer. The truck is running great. I drive over 35,000 miles a year for work. I don't pull anything as I have an 07 3500 Cummings for all the heavy work. I see a very minor difference power when romping on it. I don't think I could notice the difference if I weren't able to switch immidiately back and forth to gas. Merging and going from 45 to 75 is the same as on gas. Throttle response is the same. The state offers a 45% tax credit so the end cost is reasonable. Dodge does not have an EPA approved system. If they did it would lower the cost another $1,500. I can fill almost anywhere in the state with a range in price from 39 cents to a high of $1.49 per gallon of gas equivalent. There is only one place in Moore ok that sells at $0.39 Most places are 89 cents per GGE.i I get about 360 miles per tank. It starts on gasoline and the on CNG. #1 · Jul 21, 2016 (Edited) I had my 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 converted to bi fuel CNG. Some have asked for cost and results so here it is. You don't notice any difference when going back and forth between gasoline or CNG. The truck always starts on gasoline and then automatically switched to CNG once the temp sensor on the regulator is warm. It switches to Cng rather quickly when if the truck was just driven. I can also turn off the Cng so that it does not automatically switch if I don't want it to. The only real downside, if you want to call it that, is how much fuel you can put in the tank. I have a 21 gasoline gallons equivalent tank but you will never get 21 gallons in it. This is due to a couple of factors. One is, it won't let you fill it 100% even under ideal conditions. Two, compressing any gas creates heat and increases pressure. Outside air temperature effects your fill. Three, the trash truck that just filled up 10 minutes before you lowered the stations tank the their compressor has not filled their tank to 3,600 PSI. My installer went over all this and much more but since I am very familiar with propane this is not an issue and I knew a lot of this before. Thiese factors are the main reason I typically get around 250 to 360 miles per tank. It just depends on how full I get the tank to begin with. 0 Reply #4 · Aug 2, 2016 (Edited) Not sure how it starts in cold weather compared to propane but the hundreds of fork trucks on propane where I worked didn't even like 50 degrees. So good it starts on gasoline. I bet the regulators and vaporizers would look familiar. Those factory trucks ran 24/day 6 days a week and oil would stay so clean it was hard to believe. This and propane burn so clean. if you use it almost exclusively oil change will be needed mainly because of guilt, lol. Oil will stay looking like you just poured it in. Of course additives will wear out. Oops it's injected so I guess no vaporizer. #5 · Feb 4, 2018 Hi John, i have a 2011 1500 5.7l and i am considering to switch to CNG as well. Can you write a short update about how your truck is running in the past 2 years? Also if you could post MPG difference between gasoline and CNG would be great! Thanks Chris #6 · Feb 5, 2018

Okay this has my full attention......where? #7 · Aug 8, 2018 Hi Any idea where this conversion could be done in the Toronto/Hamilton area in Canada? Txs #8 · Apr 9, 2019 First post! Can we get an update? What kind of mileage did you see after this conversion? How well does the Hemi run on it, any issues? #9 · Apr 9, 2019 This is, what I'm preaching all the time. They convert the big gasoline engines in Europe almost 100% and they never experience an issue. Actually with LPG the engine has even bit more power. The prices in Europe for the conversion are ~50% of what they charge here- I know, I know someone there, who done it. The price is low and the system pays for it self. Last, but not least: the emissions are 70% below gasoline fueled. We don't need Electric vehicles, which need hours to be recharged, ruining the earth during mining the raw materials and you can't even go on a long trip, because of the hassle every 200 miles to get it charged. If the greenhouse fanatics would mean, what they say, we would have already LPG or CNG on every gas station and manufacturers would build them vehicles already stock. Love your commitment and your guts to do the switch. For me- unfortunately- the cost are too high to be reasonable with my driving habits- but if RAM would come out with a LPG Truck and the infrastructure would be there, I'd pay the $3000 more, which would be the up price for the system already installed at production. #10 · Apr 9, 2019 (Edited)
The Ram HD CNG is powered by the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 and features both compressed gas storage tanks and an 8-gallon gasoline fuel tank. The bi-fuel engine has been modified to run on compressed natural gas as well as gasoline, and it retains its heavy-duty capability: competent towing, payload hauling and outstanding acceleration for highway merging and passing.
