Coast Guard advises mariners to submit application for on-water mass gatherings 

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard issued Marine Safety Information Bulletin 28-20 to call attention to the potential boating safety concerns related to on-water mass gatherings and ensure adequate safety measures are in place. 

Coast Guard Sector-Houston Galveston is responsible for processing the Application for Marine Event, U.S. Coast Guard Form CG-4423 and issuing the Permit for Marine Event, U.S. Coast Guard Form CG-4424 from the east bank of the Colorado River in southwest Texas to High Island Bridge in High Island, Texas.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur is responsible for processing the Application for Marine Event, U.S. Coast Guard Form CG-4423 and issuing the Permit for Marine Event, U.S. Coast Guard Form CG-4424 from the High Island Bridge in High Island, Texas to 60 miles east of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

An individual or organization planning to hold a marine event in this area is required to submit an application to Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston. Marine events include any concentration of traffic on water, whether participant or spectator.

Event sponsors in the Houston-Galveston area of responsibility should submit the application for marine event and supporting documents, charts, safety plans, etc., to the Houston-Galveston homeport page: https://homeport.uscg.mil/Pages/MarineEventFormSubmission.aspx or via e-mail to [email protected]
