#1 · Sep 17, 2020 I am looking at a 2020 850M convertible pre-owned. I was contemplating waiting for the 2021 redesigned M4 convertible. I know the 850M would be considered more of a touring car IMO, as compared to the M4. For those of you that have the 850M that maybe have had an M4, what would be your comparison between the two. I would be trading a 2017 911S. I do want an easier car to get in and out of along with a more cushy ride but still have the ability to turn it up a notch at times for more aggressive driving. Any input would be appreciated! Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Sep 18, 2020 I just this past weekend traded my 17 C4S for an M850iX coupe. Part of the reason was so my wife could get in and out easier. She says it is easier for her getting in and out of the BMW. I have been a 911 fan since owning my first in 1985 so this was not a decision made without a lot of thought. For now, I do not miss the road noise of the Porsche and nor will I miss approximately $2K a year in maintenance costs. I know, much maintenance can be done at home but I'd rather be doing other things than working on any car at this point in my life. I have less than 500 miles on the 8 but so far, I'm completely satisfied. #3 · Nov 29, 2020 I obviously haven’t driven the M4, but very familiar with the anatomy of the 3/4 series, have driven many of each, and I currently own the M8 Competion Convertible, as well as extremely familiar with BMW’s. The major differences will be in size, luxury & features, and ride. There is actually a tremendous difference in the luxury features, fit & finishes, and power! Keep in mind, the 850 is the big brother in the family, so, everything is thrown into that vehicle, whereas, it’s not even possible to get many of the features the 850 has on the M4. #4 · Dec 16, 2020

Probably true but it would be helpful if you identified the differences, especially the ones that you say aren't otherwise available. 0 Reply #5 · Feb 15, 2021 I am nearing the end of my M850i Coupe lease and will turn it in next month. I've loved the car since day one, but I sure wouldn't compare it to the M4, as the M850i is intended to be a much more comfortable "grand tourer." I actually spent a few days in a loaner M440i this past week, while our i3S was getting a wheel repaired, and (grille commentary aside), I have been really surprised by how similar the M440i is to the M850i in overall feel. The M440i has that same "grand tourer" vibe, although obviously a bit smaller with a bit less "lux" inside (crystal shifter, etc.), but still, it's very much an 8/10ths version of the bigger 8 Coupe (with a $50K savings). I imagine the M4 will be a different beast entirely. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
