Nelbro N We are intending to trade combines after this season. Looking at either new CR8.90 or CR 8.90 Elevation. Can anyone comment on pros and cons? The salesman says the Elevation is optimized for small grain even though it sacrifices some power and hopper size. I currently run a 2012 CR8090 that does a good job in wheat, barley and canola. I don't want to give up any capacity. The Elevation cleaning system might be better in canola but I think the reduced power will cost me in wheat. All the elevation models I've come across are either the same hp or even more hp yet. I've never come across an elevation model that is less hp than the standard model #4 · Oct 20, 2016 CR8.90 Elevation has 20HP less along with a smaller displacement engine. I believe the Elevation is a 10L engine vs the 11L in the Grand Island built CR8.90. The hopper capacity on the 8.90 Elevation is 350 vs 410 on the Grand Island built 8.90. #5 · Oct 20, 2016 We are looking at the same thing and one of the parts guys brought it to my attention that the elevation will be hard to get parts for as there are no machines like that in this area. So for me it's a no brainer I don't want a combine that I can't get parts for! And I also really liked that big hopper on the demo that they brought out this fall #6 · Oct 23, 2016 The parts that are different are the one you probably never need , I hear some dealers only order European machines cause that's what customers want. Not sure what CNH is smoking with all those different models and options , some good features can't get on 8.90 elevation ! Crazy marketing I call it . #16 · Nov 7, 2016 (Edited)

I am not so sure about this. We took a rotor bearing out of the CR9080 at 1100 hours. Fortunately it was a NA model and was available close by! If it was an elevation, who knows where that rotor bearing would have come from. As an aside, I have no idea why they would use 2 different rotor bearings for the same size machine? No doubt there must be lots of little differences that maybe worth investigating. Otherwise you may want to buy 2 and leave one parked so you can get parts in less than a weeks time! I know one colony in the area that run 4 combines (don't think elevation combines) and have a 5th just for parts! 0 Reply #7 · Oct 24, 2016 Where are you buying this combine? That depends what hp it is , #8 · Oct 24, 2016 Couldn't find a CR8.90 elevation listed on the North American website. Only a cr9.90 elevation and it's the same horsepower as a regular CR9.90. #9 · Oct 24, 2016 I believe they are now bringing over smaller elevation combines than 9.90 now. Not sure if the 8.90 is the smallest but I think so. I would go for the elevation model and I would step up to the 9.90 if that's what it took to get the bigger hopper. Not sure whay they wouldn't put the larger hoppers on....dumb move!!! 0 Reply #10 · Oct 24, 2016 $ 90000 for bigger hopper ? #11 · Nov 7, 2016 faunacombine We have Cr8.90 and have been having fun combining tough canola manly plugging the rotors with wet straw, anyone have any good suggestions on how to reverse rotors with the big wrench without killing ones shoulders and arms #15 · Nov 7, 2016

You have a DSP? From what I have seen if a DSP twin-rotor combine plugs the cylinders you probably shouldn't be in the field! If you plug drop concaves, gear rotors down and hit it with half throttle and it should come out from what I hear. Case needs a reversing rotor, we plugged that brand countless times in crop that wouldn't make a CR flinch. What CaseIH really needs is a synchro rotor gearbox because the reverser is basically useless in third gear. Some advice from the Claas guys would be to run tight concave clearance so if it does plug you have room to drop them. From pluged to running in less than a few minutes #13 · Nov 7, 2016 Elevation for small grains. NA built for corn and beans. #14 · Nov 7, 2016 Not sure why they have different specs. Seems odd but I have seen stranger things. #21 · Nov 8, 2016 If it's an 8.90 i assume you have dsp. You can do what everyone on hear is saying in regards to unplugging. However with the dsp make sure you loosen the dsp drive belt before doing anything. It's the overcenter tightener under the hopper. By doing this it won't stuff anything in while unplugging the rotor. We rarely ever have to use the wrench on the rotor drive. #22 · Nov 8, 2016 As far as parts availability on elevation models. We have been running them for 6 years and have not had an issue as some on here fear. Our dealer actually does not even order NA models anymore. Insert Quotes Post Reply
