When to apply for visa? | Please note that D-2 visa (including D-2-6 and D-2-8)is issued in single entry only and is valid for 3 months. Therefore, please apply for visa no more than 3 months prior to your entry date. |
Duration of stay to be issued | The duration of stay will be issued in strict accordance to the duration of studies as listed on the admission certificate (eg. if the duration of studies is 4 months, the duration of stay to be issued would be 4 months). The Embassy would not be able to issue you extra days to accommodate your personal needs. If you need to stay beyond the duration of stay issued to you, please approach the local immigration office in Korea for assistance. |
Obligation to apply for Registration Card | You are required to apply for Registration Card at a local immigration office in Korea within 90 days of your arrival. You are allowed to leave and re-enter Korea while maintaining your D-2 student status as long as you possess a valid Registration Card. Upon the completion of your studies, the Registration Card must be returned to the immigration office or immigration officer at the departure airport. Failure to do so will result in fine. The Embassy does not issue/extend Registration Card. |
Frequently Asked Questions (More FAQs can be found here (click)) | Q1: My exchange program will start on 01 Sep but I would like to enter Korea earlier for my personal travel. Am I allowed to do so? Ans: Once your visa is issued, it is valid for use. Should you choose to enter Korea earlier, the duration of stay issued may not cover you till the end of the program. You will need to visit the local immigration office in Korea to request for extension of stay. |
Q2: I have just received my D-2 visa. I will be travelling to Korea for holiday for a few days and will be returning to Singapore before going to Korea again for my exchange program. Will this have any implications on my D-2 visa? Ans: Please note that your D-2 visa will be used upon your first entry into Korea and will be invalidated when you depart from Korea in the absence of a valid Registration Card. Should you wish to go ahead with the above planned itinerary, you will need to apply for D-2 visa again for your exchange program.
Q3: My address and contact number in Korea are yet to be confirmed. What should I write on the visa application form? Ans: For address in Korea, please write "undecided". For contact number in Korea, please write your Singapore number.
Q4: My program duration is 6 months but the validity period of my visa is 3 months. Does it meant that I can only stay in Korea for 3 months? Ans: Validity of visa and duration of stay allowed are different entities. Visa is valid for 3 months once issued. This means that you will need to enter Korea within 3 months or else the visa will lapsed. On the other hand, the period of sojourn listed on the visa is the duration of stay allowed and it will start to count from the date of entry. |
