Dell G3223Q With 4K IPS Panel And 144Hz Refresh Rate Launched
Dell have recently announced their new G3223Q gaming display, a 32″ sized monitor with a 4K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. This will be a new option for those looking for a larger format screen with 4K and 144Hz, something that has been increasingly popular over the last year or so.
Dell G3223Q Specs
The screen is 32″ in size and based on an AU Optronics IPS-type panel. It has a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 1ms G2G quoted response time in the maximum ‘extreme’ mode, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness (600 cd/m2 for HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit+FRC colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 95% of the DCI-P3 reference. Factory calibration has been performed and Dell promote an accuracy of dE < 2 for sRGB mode, and dE <3 for DCI-P3.
The screen has a high 144Hz refresh rate, and this is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems (48 – 144Hz range + LFC). The screen has been certified under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’ scheme as well.
The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments. For connectivity there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and (supposedly) 2x HDMI 2.1 connections offered with the screen supporting PiP and PbP modes too. We say “supposedly” for HDMI 2.1, as we know from our recent article that this term may not necessarily mean what people expect. Dell don’t really list any capabilities other than being able to support 4K at 120Hz for games consoles, so there is no indication at the moment whether this is with colour sacrifice and compression, or whether the screen supports features like HDMI-VRR or ALLM for instance. There are 2x USB 3.2 and a headphone connection located on the left side of the screen for easy access as well.
DisplayHDR 600 support
The screen has a modest HDR 600 certification and so offers some basic edge-lit local dimming to try and improve the contrast and dynamic range. There is a peak brightness of 600 cd/m2, and the screen has the necessary colour enhancements associated with HDR with its 10-bit colour depth support and wide 95% DCI-P3 gamut coverage.
Pricing and availability
According to a Dell press release this week the screen will be available in North America & EMEA on March 30, 2022, APJ & China on March 11 for $1,099.99 USD.
