For example, in many small-scale industries, HR/Personnel is the same, but in giant and huge industries, HR Administration, Personnel, and Time Office can be different. The human resource department is devoted to providing effective policies, procedures, and people-friendly guidelines and support within companies. Please see below a list of HR responsibilities, but not limited to: - Recruiting - Hiring - Training - Organization Development - Communication - Performance Management - Coaching - Policy Recommendation - Salary and Benefits - Team Building - Employee Relations - Leadership Some of these responsibilities could be turned into departments. Now, it also depends on the skills of the HR manager, and the organization could arrange to have other functions reporting to HR, such as IT, Legal, General Administration, Government Relations, etc., basically all support functions. Just think of the basics: whatever relates to the manpower in a company is HR. The basic functions are Recruitment, Development, Retention, and Separation. All the sub-departments which my friends have deliberated come under these heads. Recruitment Recruitment is a strategic function involving understanding the business requirements and providing the necessary manpower in sufficient quantity and quality at the right time. Basic induction and training are part of this phase. Development Development includes areas such as Training and Development, talent management, competency mapping, and performance management, among others. Retention Retention encompasses Compensation & Benefits, career planning, and administration. Separation Separation involves handling separation benefits and formalities.
