- Difference between H.265+ and H.265 video compression
Difference between H.265+ and H.265 video compression Unifore Security June 25,2018-4:03 AM Hisilicon,a global fabless semiconductor and IC design company, recently unveiled new IP camera system-on-chips which supporting H.265+ new video compression. According to whitepaper released by Hisilicon, the H.265+ can further reduce 50% bitrate than conventional H.265 video compression in typical IP video surveillance scenario.
Similar to H.264+, H.265+ is an enhanced video compression technology based on its predecessor H.265. Technically speaking, H.265+ is a technology combining SmartP and AVBR technologies. SmartP takes the advantages of multiple reference architecture of video encoder hardware and uses both long-term reference and short-term reference to improve the compression efficiency. It’s an advanced referencing technology exclusively used in Hisilicon video encoder. In most scenario, video sequences where background scene is relatively stable, it saves about 30% bitrates compared with other encoders using single reference frame.
In addition to SmartP, AVBR is a bitrate controlling algorithm used in video encoders. With visually unchanged picture quality, AVBR actively reduces the overall bit rates by intelligently distributing bits to the areas of motion. By using AVBR, it can save about 30% bitrates compared with VBR.
In a nutshell, H.265+ can save approximate 50% bitrate than H.265, which means it can lower bandwidth and storage consumption further. By using H.265+, IP camera can deliver smooth 1080P (30 frames per second) video stream under as low as 500kbps.
